See http://jt-designs.com/. You might spot a couple other items you cannot live without. Like the "Under panel". When procuring your gauges and senders you may wish to make sure you get an oil pressure gauge in the range that our cars use. A number of kits go to extreme ranges that our cars never see. I suppose you could play with the t-stat in a pan of water and watch what it does compared to a known good one...but at that point you've already had to open the system. Seriously, I think it will take like an hour to do the job. Pick up some coolant, distilled water, and a new t-stat + gasket from the dealer and do the swap at the track if you don't have time before. I don't know about you, but having just replaced the head gasket and the cooling system, anything that puts the engine at risk in the car creeps me out. -Pete Stefano G wrote: > Hi Pete, > I hear you. We're still talking about just replacing the thermostat? It's only about an hour or so job, certainly less than two. Going to the track with a known faulty cooling system component is, to be polite, foolish. You wouldn't be the first person (and certainly not the last) to work on their car late into the night prior to going to the track. In some ways, it's part of "the ritual" :-) Just do it. You, and as importantly the folks who will be sharing the track with you, will thank me. Date: Tue, 10 Apr 2007 14:51:28 -0400 (EDT) From: "Stefano G" <stefanoale@excite.com> Subject: Was air pocket - now bad thermostat Dude! You overwhelmingly and kindly expressed your opinion which can be summarized as... I'm a moron for taking the risk to hit the track with a thermostat stuck open! I see your point... Given that I was under the assumption that it would remain open (apparently I was way off) I called the local bmw dealership and bought the thermostat / the housing / the o-ring / and what the heck a new pump w metal impeller which I will install tonight rather than doing my MBA school work ( for the bus people out there this is a GOOD bus decision so it's kind of like applying my MBA, but I digress... ) Thanks again for playing the role of the parent slapping around the unruly teenager. You can stop now, seriously, it hurts ;) Stefano '98 M3 which will see another day after Friday the 13th at Pocono if I don't kiss the wall... _______________________________________________ Join Excite! - http://www.excite.com The most personalized portal on the Web!
