You can stop now, seriously, it hurts ;) I think you got off easy this time <g>. And you're not totally off the hook either, new parts don't guarantee anything, bad (new) thermostats are a known issue and the water pumps aren't exactly bullet proof in these cars. Carlos 98 M3 w/Stewart pump, Al rad, new hoses, Al t-stat housing and I still don't trust the damn thing. :-)

Thermostats when failed can deteriorate into pieces. Or better yet, a source for fabric that is very similar to Amaretta/Alcantara, but not so bloody expensive? I always thought it would be neat to cover the pillars and headliner in a faux suede, like the M5's. But Alcantara is WAY too expensive for me to even consider it. If a (much) cheaper, decent looking alternative existed, I would consider it. -------------------- 5 -------------------- Date: Tue, 10 Apr 2007 14:02:12 -0400 From: "James Clay" <james@bimmerworld.com> Subject: Individual interior colors Does anyone know of a good resource for this? I am going to have some seats in the Touring project car recovered and I think I am going for something a little different. There are lots of BMW fabrics, embossed leather, etc to choose from, but hard to know what it actually looks like from a drawing on the ETK. Thanks! Alcantara is basically microfiber, which is all the rage in furniture these days (because it's basically friggin' indestructible). You can probably find some pretty easily. - Mark ----- mark@pdc-racing.net Free motorsports classifieds at JustRacing.com! http://www.justracing.com/classifieds

So much for the alum t-stat housing -- mine failed last year. So I replaced it with -- yes, you guessed it -- a plastic housing. The original one looked brand new after 40K miles anyway. That alum housing developed a hairline crack after just 5K miles. What a piece of $hit! Then again, maybe I'm the only poor soul that had a bad alum housing!? My mechanic says many of the aluminum housings were poorly made and he's seen a lot of leaking ones. Reed/Seattle > > Hi Carlos, > > Your right. Yep...the casting quality is really poor...I had one with a crack in it when it was new that would allow it to drip a few drops of coolant once the car had been run. If I had to do it over again I would just get one of the newer plastic housings. Dave T.

I went to the dealer, ordered an assortment of nine of the rear fold down armrests in order to evaluate the fabric/leather combinations and chose a fabric for the seat centers from the sample armrests. Returned the armrests and ordered the "boa" fabric.
