In addition, a 42-oz dead blow hammer can make short work of any rubbing in that area, in the paddock if need be. Ask me how I know... :-) Jim Bassett

I'm running the GC barrel-shaped springs in the rear, I think the rate is 545lbs. Think a 600 or 650 would do it? Cheaper and easier than camber arms. I will change the bushings at some point, but I'm pretty sure they're OK now, the car only has 24k miles. Thank you! -Paul -----Original Message----- From: cteague@cox.net [mailto:cteague@cox.net] Sent: Monday, April 16, 2007 6:00 PM To: Paul Andrews; E36M3 Subject: RE: [E36M3] Rear camber arms for STU/Fender Rub I'm very familiar with tire rub on STU cars. ;-) Choices to fix include: 1) Reduce toe-in 2) Increase camber 3) Raise ride height 4) Run stiffer springs 5) Live with it I've done all 5. ;-) Also, IMHO, the optimum wheel offset for STU legal fenders is 42-44mm. You are just to the outside of that, but not by much. Also, make sure ALL your rear bushings are in good shape. You may want to run poly subframe bushings. If I understand you on exactly where it is rubbing (outer fender, 12:00 position, sounds like #3 or #4 may help. Chris > Wheels are the D-Force LTW5, 17x9, 41mm offset. #4. Looking for a trunk handle - from Phil Chen

It's basically something to close the trunk with, without getting my finger prints on the trunk lid. Anyone remember or know what I'm talking about? I've searched the archive, & the net, & found nothing. Thanx... :-) Phil '07 HCH2 & '99 M3/2 <-- both need trunk "handle" of sorts... '96 Suburban <-- no trunk!

This list is great, or rather the people on this list is great :-) After years of pulling on the "hidden" handle inside the trunk then pulling my hand out of the way (of the closing trunk) I can now finally get around to it. Shel, I asked essentially the same question a few days ago and got zero responses. I *believe* most 6 cylinder E36 cars came from the factory with 88C thermostats. At some point BMW began recommending 92C for whatever reason - probably emissions. If you simply ask your dealer for a thermostat you'll get a 92C. At least that's been my experience (and yours). However, I just ordered an 88C for my own use (yeah, dealer didn't stock it). I have a new 92C left over from my last car. I figure the car is running great now; I'll just stick with the same temp that I have now - whatever it is. As for 71C... that sounds WAY cold. I can't imagine any modern EFI closed-loop catalyst car running near optimum on that bad boy... David Kroth david_kroth@yahoo.com __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I'd think the raised letters of the license plate would almost be sufficient for that level of grip required. I could be missing something - I was banging my helmet against a (too close but properly sfi padded) roll cage all weekend. I spoke to someone who essentially said the exact same thing and also said they only use the 71 degree thermostat for their race cars. I'll stick with the 92 degree one I got from the dealer. My air pump is not making any noise right now, so I'm hoping it is just the valve. I'll be checking it tomorrow. Thanks to Paul and Chris for the quick replies and the link to the Bavarian Auto newsletter. This simplifies the stuff from the manual a great deal! Brian Foley Charlotte, NC
