Yes, if you fold down the rear seats, you should have no problem is putting 4 tires back there.. Hint, put the tires in large garbage bags to protect your interior.. + Spare R-comp in the spare tire well.. I did this for years when going to the track.. Regards Mo -------------------- 6 -------------------- Date: Thu, 26 Apr 2007 21:28:57 -0600 From: Peter Fry <PeterFry@aol.com> Subject: Fit 4 wheels & tires in trunk/back? Fellow M3ers- Thanks for the brake pad recommendations... I'm going with Akebono ceramics, and putting them on this weekend along with new rotors. So... I'm wanting to bring summer tires to the brake tech session to swap from the snow tires and hope to sell the snows. You track junkies- able to carry a complete set in the trunk with the back seats folded down? I was thinking I could pull the spare and then only have to carry 3 in the back. I'll try loading them tomorrow night, but thought I'd troll for corporate knowledge so I don't re-invent the wheel. Techniques welcome... Thanks, ___ Peter Fry

Give them your paint code, and they will mix up some cans for you.. I did this for my cars, and the paint matches VERY well.. Regards Mo -------------------- 9 -------------------- Date: Fri, 20 Apr 2007 09:44:22 -0700 From: "Jonathan L." <twistym3@hotmail.com> Subject: "Titanium Silver" BMW Paint in a Rattle Can? Continuing in the journey of tearing things out of my car, and let me tell you, sound deadening is a PITA. Not hard work, but BOY is it tedious. Once the cage goes in, which won't be for a little while still, I think I'm going to want to go one step further in cleaning up the interior by repainting the metal surfaces. I've been scratching it up a little bit, and there's some good discoloration here and there, but I'd like to be presentable for any potential sponsors. Has anyone found a spray paint that is close to or the same as the BMW Titanium Silver? I've only seen it supplied from BMW so far as touch up paint. Or would the only real option be to get the paint code, have it made up? thanks, Jonathan L.

I used to remove the seat bottom and stack four across standing upright. There was enough room left for the jack and some soft bags too. It was nicer than having the seat folded down because I didn't have to listen to all the tools jangling around in the trunk. -- Walter

You can also stack two lying flat on each side of the rear seat, at least i can. Could probably stack three high but the height of two doesn't block the rear view. Four wheels with tires and four tires pretty much fills the car - six in the back seat one in the well and one in the trunk. I throw a couple-four of old bath towels on the seat for protection. KLB

Yeah I'm surprised on both how little room there is in an E36 2door but yet surprised how much you can pack into one if you're determined. For my VIR race school I had the aforementioned 4 wheels/R compounds in the back seat (seat bottom removed). A slim cooler that fit behind the race seat. A bin full of track stuff (fluids, pads, special tools, spares). A toolbox with only enough tools to fix certain known E36 issues (water pump), the toolbox can't be very large. HF floorjack, Snap-On cordless impact. Duffle bag with a weekend + worth of clothes. One extra buddy to assist you and or assist Simon who was racing. His duffle bag full of stuff. 1 map, 1 handheld GPS, 2 helmets. That about filled up every available inch of space in my car with room to see out the back window. :-) Oh and the Blue Ridge Parkway which we took once we got lost into NC (yeah and we had a GPS) made sure whatever wasn't secured really well to slide around all over the place. It is easy - pick up the tire totes Bimmerworld sells (best $40 I've spent on the car so I picked up a separate set) and wrap up the tires in those. They will fit across the back seat standing on end or stacked 2 x 2. I've done this and driven from Seattle to Infineon with my Fiance and all her luggage required for the weekend in the truck (and on top of the tires, and packed in the footwells). Ok, that's not completely fair. I had a smal bag, some tools (including jack), our 3 helmets and a laptop, too. Of course, I've got a 4 door which makes it easier. By not laying down the seats and trying to fit stuff in the trunk, you retain a lot of extra cubage for packing of other stuff. Like all your Fiance's clothes for a weekend. Please, those of you who know us from GGC events, don't mention this to her... ;) On 4/26/07, Peter Fry <PeterFry@aol.com> wrote: > Date: Thu, 26 Apr 2007 21:28:57 -0600 > From: Peter Fry <PeterFry@aol.com> > Subject: Fit 4 wheels & tires in trunk/back? > > Fellow M3ers- > Thanks for the brake pad recommendations... Kurt, Not sure I'm much help, but I've run through several sets of these for AutoX use. The are a great AutoX tire when you are required to run Street tires. I've been very impressed. The work great on the street also, but I wear them out at the AutoX, so I've never put on a lot of miles on the street. I've never found them noisy. I was thinking I could pull the spare and then only >have to carry 3 in the back. I have a set of the BMW "winter tire totes" (similar to these: http://tinyurl.com/2oxcpd ). I put all four wheels on the back seat, laying on their sides, two stacks of two. I push the passenger seat back all the way to hold that pair in place and use the left rear seatbelt to prevent the driver's side pair from sliding forward. This leaves the trunk free for jack, air tank, tools, etc. I put a towel on the rear seat before putting the wheels in the car. I have tried folding the rear seats down, but the wheels fit better with the seat backs up and there is less transmitted road noise from the trunk - which is nice when I'm driving to a track 4 to 6 hours away. Wheels in the trunk, even with one in the spare tire well, uses most of the space back there. David Crum 96 M3 <-- will be at Buttonwillow in 2 weeks!
