So I'm pretty sure that's the culprit but I figured I'd post here in case it's a sign for something coming or such... > > Also the best price I found is ~$270 wow that's a lot more than I expected for an air pump, there may be more sensors in there that I don't know but ok... > > Anyone has any good idea to find something cheaper? Stefano, Incredibly I do believe it's just a motor and perhaps a pulse sensor to tell when it moves one revolution. It could be that and the car varies the voltage to control motor speed, or motor speed isn't controlled at all, or it's a stepper motor. Either way, it's HUGELY overpriced and the motor could probably be pulled from a vacuum cleaner. I'm not going to try though :-P As for your diagnosis, sounds dead on. Thanks, Mark

#2. Secondary Air Pump - from Foley, Brian

Date: Sun, 27 May 2007 15:05:44 -0400 From: "Foley, Brian" <bfoley@cmpd.org> Subject: Secondary Air Pump Stefano, I have been battling this same problem on my '97 sedan for about a year. Started happening last year as an intermittent problem but then about two months ago began popping up about once every two weeks. Not a serious problem, but the codes are stored in memory and require substantial later driving requirements (without fault code) after clearing them with the code reader before the car will pass OBDII inspection. I get either just the one F6 code or occasionally both F6 and E6 codes. When do your codes show up? Have you been driving a while, or do they show as soon as you start the car? Mine occur only after driving the car during the day, and usually happen when the car is warm and I'm sitting at a stop light, at idle. I have replaced the cheaper Secondary Air Valve first; this mounts just above the exhaust manifold on the passenger side and has a small vacuum hose running to it from around the front of the head. My problem was that the vacuum hose from the intake deteriorated over time due to heat and began to fall apart. Since you always do the cheaper fix first, I spent about $70. The car ran fine for four days, then that stupid code threw again. So now, it looks like a new air pump is going to have to go in. Anyone else go through this? Brian Foley '97 M3/4

See if you can get a used one off a race prepped car. Thats what I did. $70 for the pump and valve and im off and running going on 6 months or so now. #10. RE: [E36M3] Cam kit experience - from Matt Bader

Date: Mon, 28 May 2007 12:10:39 -0400 From: "Matt Bader" <mbader@exammaster.com> Subject: RE: [E36M3] Cam kit experience The day I had my car dyno'd with Stage 1 s/c kit, there was a guy with a '98 testing his Turner cam Kit. (I believe it was called a Stage IV kit). I know there are lots of variables involved in dyno testing (e.g. it was a cool January morning, not cold), but what he posted on the dynojet was max torque = 234.9, max power = 227.2. Not sure what, if any, other mods he had on the car. By comparison that day, I posted 246.5 max torque and 297.5 max power with the Stage I supercharger from Active. We did a comparison chart overlay of the two cars. Basically, up to about 3750 rpm the cars had very similar torque/power curves. The cam kit's peek torque was at 3750. Above 3750, the supercharger had the advantage, keeping the torque high (225 lb/ft or higher) throughout the rest of the rev range, thus leading to the much higher overall power figure. The cam kit's torque trailed off noticeably after 3750.
