#1. [E36M3] Eurosport Cam Kit Experience - from Wayne Miller

It ended up at right around 300 HP (just over 250 to the wheels) when we were finished. The baseline car is not mine but the Sharked/intake (cold air intake - not S50 intake) and the cam kit car are mine. I did also have the Evosport pulleys and the fan delete which gave a tiny bump but the pulleys were there for the Sharked run too. http://www.efwperformance.com/dyno.jpg -Wayne

I just replaced my SAS pump with a new OE one a few weeks ago...no more howler monkey! Woohoo! I tried a DIY fix, but it was a lost cause. Next, I tried the used SAS pump route (twice) and ended up with nothing but frustrations both times. I picked up the first pump from someone on bimmerforums, but the incorrect part was sent despite having sent a link to the part via realoem. I picked up the second used pump from an ebay store boneyard...pump arrived DOA. Fortunately, the ebayer refunded my $$ without question. I was lucky to find an ebayer selling a new OE pump for $200 shipped, so I jumped on it. Grant 98 M3/4

I have a new (to me) Sparco steering wheel and hub adapter on the way for arrival in the next couple of days. I'd like to be sure to prevent an annoying airbag light from popping on. Is there a way to prevent the light from coming on without soldering wires 'n such. Electrical stuff makes me nervous. ;-) Jonathan L. _________________________________________________________________ PC Magazine’s 2007 editors’ choice for best Web mail—award-winning Windows Live Hotmail. http://imagine-windowslive.com/hotmail/?locale=en-us&ocid=TXT_TAGHM_migration_HM_mini_pcmag_0507

Electrical stuff makes me nervous. ;-) Well, you better get used to it Mr. I'm-Bulding-A-Racecar :-) OK, 2 ways: #1 - Ghetto way: piece of black electrical tape over airbag light. #2 - "Correct" way :-) Pull instrument cluter out (easy when changing steering wheels); remove small bulb from behind airbag indicator. Then, cut the Blu/Blk wire at A14 (connector A, pin 14) - this is one of the two bigger connectors going to the cluster (sorry, forget which). The other connector's pin 14 is Blu/Yel/Vio, to help differentiate them. That's for a 1997 and 1998 M3; for a 1996 & earlier, cut the Violet wire at A15 (this worked on my 325is, BTW). This info works for all E36s, BTW. If you're following along in your Bentley manual, the relevant pages are ELE-165 and ELE-167. Happy cutting :-) Jim Bassett

I've used those 3M connectors that can cut into two wires but I strip the wire I'm tying into before clamping onto it and then I electrical tape it shut so it won't open up on me accidentally. I've never much cared for those but what do the EE's prefer to see? Carlos 98 M3 has a few of those in it from the aftermarket radio and now my Spa gauges

I've never much > cared for those but what do the EE's prefer to see? I've used those in a few places, and they've worked out OK. I haven't stripped the wire beforehand, but then these were in non-critical circuits - just indicator lights. Another option might be to use solderable butt-splices; cut the wire of choice and place one end in the splice, and in the other end place the other end of the wire and the tap. Cover with heat-shrink tubing. Jim Bassett

#10. Tools for head R&R - from marty

Date: Tue, 29 May 2007 22:25:52 -0400 From: marty <mfraiser@earthlink.net> Subject: Tools for head R&R Greetings, I need to remove my head and have it refurbished, etc. I've got everything removed now except the head itself. With all the recent head gasket work discussed on the list I thought I'd see which special tools are required and a good place to get them. Maybe even someone has them lying around and would let me borrow them. I think it requires at least cam/and flywheel locks, dummy tensioner, and thin-wall deep E12 head bolt socket. I'll need to read the Bentley procedure again and find some writeups but I think a secondary tensioner lock (or maybe that's just a stiff wire) and possibly the VANOS air pressurizer adapter and electrical test leads are needed. I'm guessing all the tools are required to make the job easier and correct? Any thoughts on using studs instead of new stock head bolts? Any suggestions of things to do while I'm in there? I'm thinking it's a good time to check and possibly replace the knock sensors (original, now @ 115K miles). I think I'll probably put a new water pump in - second OE pump with about 55K miles on it. Seems like a good time to take advantage of Bimmerworld's special on the Stewart pump and PWR radiator except the current radiator only has about 16K miles on it. Maybe I should do the radiator anyway since the current one is a Behr OEM and the car likes going to the track. Thermostat and thermostat cover are also fairly new. I replaced all of the rubber hoses and vacuum lines earlier this year. Thanks, marty '96 M3 - bastard child in need of head job '95 540i-6
