Gotta clean that sucker constantly. Mine doesn't seem to be "on" when I need it to be, therefore the poor soldering. If you haven't seen the ad for these, some electrical guru (I'm sure) solders something and then immediately touches the tip, it dices it slices it makes julianne fries type of ad. The iron only works when you're soldering. Mine doesn't work hardly at all, piece of crap ads. I fell for it. :-) Anyone want to buy a Coleman Cold Heat soldering iron? Works great... Carlos 98 M3

Doesn't seem fair to me to keep lowering the MAX PERMISSIBLE on an already manufactured car... New cars that can have stricter emissions requirements placed on them pre-manufacture/sale, sure, but, we're talking about 8+ year old emissions technology (E36M3) here. There's only sooo much you can do with what you're given; and, it's not like the old carburetor days when you could lean/fatten it to pass SMOG (and run horribly during the test) just to change it back after... Sounds like a conspiracy to make $$ for the mechanics and CARB on re-tests/fines/immunity-payoffs... Thinking about picking up a set of each of these for my street and race pads. Previously I've used PF97 and Hawk Blue and Hawk DTC70 race pads. I liked the 97's and 70's, the Blues weren't enough for me and I killed them. How do the R4's stack up vs the '97's? How are the R4s on the street? Good bite, quiet street pads? I currently have Axxis Ultimates and I HATE them!

This is posted on bimmerfest. http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=209003 Text.... Well if it sounds too good to be true.. it usually is. BUT in this case it isn't. I bought the car in 1994 and it was my first. I did the necessary work to keep it running until I went to college in 1996. It has sat in my parent's yard since then. It gets started a few times a year and moved from time to time. They have sold their property and are downsizing. I have until June 15th to have the car leave or the wreckers are coming in. I most recently sat in the car on Easter and made a difficult decision to not repair it, but rather move on. I probably should have been commited by the guys in white at that point, but none the less, I'm not keeping the car. I have a clear title and am willing to GIVE it to anyone who will come get it. It runs (acutally purrs) and the interior is in OK shape (but the clock works!!). The car is located in Klamath Falls, Oregon. Let me know if you want the vehicle. First come first served. ____________________________________________________________________________________Pinpoint customers who are looking for what you sell. http://searchmarketing.yahoo.com/

I _love_ R4S for the street -- very low dust, and the red/brown dust is absolutely non-corrosive . Take some time to bed in, but after that they're fine. I've run them on: BMW M1, BMW 530i (E12), Mazda MPV, Jaguar XJ-S HE, Infinity FX35 -- very happy in all cases. --Andrew Original Message: ----------------- From: DocWyte docwyte@comcast.net Date: Wed, 30 May 2007 20:55:05 -0500 To: e36m3@bmw-m.net Subject: [E36M3] Comments on Porterfield R4s and R4 pads... Take some time to bed in, but after that > they're > fine. I will take the opposite position on these (again, Hi Andrew). These pads absolutely suck ass on the street. I have tried them on 3 different BMWs (E36 M3, E39 528, E38 740) and they squealed like a garbage truck on every one of them. Other people I know have had exactly the same problem. I gooped them. I chamfered them. I felted them. I swung the dead chicken around every time I installed them. SQUEEEAAAAAALLLL!! "Hey, is your bus here or is that just Mark pulling up?" Give them a pass. They SUCK, which is a damned shame as (as Andrew pointed out) they are low dust and stop well on the street (but will fade on the track). - Mark ----- mark@pdc-racing.net Check out my JustRacing homepage at: http://www.justracing.com/homepage/mdadgar

Not bad for a beginner track pad (not you but someone who's just starting DEs). Low dust, no problems with caustic dust and I had no noise issues. Others have said they were noisy. I went thru a few sets with no issues. I used lots of Permatex spray on brake goop on the backs of the pads. Maybe that's the trick. The R4 pads are a decent track pad but not up to the performance of the Hawk HT-10s or HT-14s I've been using. I doubt you'd be satisfied with them. Like the R4-S pads they have no caustic dust but are noisy and dust heavily. You know Porterfield gives a 20% discount for Suzy's list, yes? They do the discount on Hawks too.
