This is on a 2003 C32 AMG, not a BMW but on that car I have R4 on the front and R4S on the rear. As others have mentioned, the R4 squeal like a banshee and dust terribly. The R4S are quiet, however and have very little dust. I'm going to get some R4S for the front for daily driving and keep the R4 for track days. Anyhow, the way it is setup, I ran 8 20 minute sessions at Gingerman Raceway in MI and the 1st stop was as good and consistent as stop 1. Awesome pads. I have tried them on 3 different BMWs (E36 M3, E39 528, E38 740) and they squealed like a garbage truck on every one of them. Other people I know have had exactly the same problem. I gooped them. I chamfered them. I felted them. I swung the dead chicken around every time I installed them. SQUEEEAAAAAALLLL!! "Hey, is your bus here or is that just Mark pulling up?" Give them a pass. They SUCK, which is a damned shame as (as Andrew pointed out) they are low dust and stop well on the street (but will fade on the track). - Mark ----- mark@pdc-racing.net Check out my JustRacing homepage at: http://www.justracing.com/homepage/mdadgar ************************************************* Please help support the E36M3 list by visiting our sponsors: Bimmerworld http://www.bimmerworld.com Turner Motorsport http://www.turnermotorsport.com Eurosport High Performance http://www.eurosporthighperformance.com Rogue Engineering http://www.rogueengineering.com Treehouse Racing http://www.treehouseracing.com Elephant Motorsports Inc. http://www.elephantmotorsports.com DIGEST INFORMATION: http://www.bmw-m.net/resources/digest_info.htm ************************************************* No virus found in this incoming message. Sounds like the R4s is a good street pad and I need to > stick to my DTC-70's for the track... Based on my experience with my StopTechs, they won't. I put HP+ pads on my cars and some squeal like the garbage truck but the StopTechs don't. Either the size or the stiffness of the caliper eliminates the noise. For the other cars I use the BMW brake paste and that quiets even the HP+ down, this is much better stuff than the auto parts store goop. I've also tried the Porterfield R4S and I was not impressed, I was also not a fan of the brown dust. I'd rather see a charcoal looking dust that at least is somewhat hidden by the wheel's color. Mine squealed but then again the BMW paste could probably take care of that. Carlos 98 M3

That's exactly what I used to do before I got more serious with my pad selection. I did have a small problem with pad deposit build-up when switching between the R4 and R4-S pads. Even though they were both Porterfield. My first two M3's barely passed HC by one or two for the five and ten years I owned them. All stock when smogged. Always fresh oil, plugs, and filters for the smog test, driven on the HWY 280 autobahn for 20 minutes and then pulled right into the test bay a few hundred yards off HWY 280. My third M3 passed smog easily. I actually did a pre-test on it to make sure ... :-) Rex
