The EVOs are killing me in STU, but I have a lot of work to do yet. That being said, I don't think I could deal with owning them, I've heard about and seen enough broken stuff to not want to autox one. I'd rather change a $200 radiator than a clutch. Or halfshaft, or diff, or trans, or turbo.... -Paul -----Original Message----- From: Ahmad Lutfeali [mailto:m3_racer99@hotmail.com] Sent: Friday, June 01, 2007 3:55 PM To: E36M3 Subject: [E36M3] OT: STi Date: Fri, 1 Jun 2007 15:52:42 -0400 From: "Ahmad Lutfeali" <m3_racer99@hotmail.com> Subject: OT: STi Folks, Being an E36 owner for the past eight years and having five different M3s (okay I only totaled one of them) I sold my last Estoril E36 I Stock race car to Bob Smith (who is now on the list, welcome Bob). I loved the cars and enjoyed every bit of it and it was time for something different. I really did not enjoy my E46 328i Auto :( and after test driving a few cars (needed a four seater, trunk) I ended up getting a WRX STi.

Too much :-P Regarding my previous email listing faults, my friend got his 04 back from the dealer today with the new engine and all. Apparently his 5th gear isn't broken but the issue was his clutch. So his transmission was fine. So I guess +1 point for STi. I think the issue is that every one of us would love to have an STi... as a second car :-P Thanks, Mark

#6. Stubborn Fuel Cap - from Phil
Top
Date: Mon, 4 Jun 2007 09:05:58 -0700 From: Phil <estorilphil@gmail.com> Subject: Stubborn Fuel Cap A funny thing happened over the weekend: After refueling the M3, I had the most difficult time putting the fuel cap back on. While it's possible I could have gotten incredibly weak in my wrists, I'm wondering if it's time to replace the fuel cap. Now, I don't drive the M3 much anymore, as far as I can remember it's been about over a week since it was last driven. I can't even remember when the last fuel-up was... Anyone have this issue? It's a 99 that I've owned since new, and upon close inspection I didn't see any visible cause for this friction (rust, severely worn out rubber, bent out of shape tab...etc etc). But then again, I didn't have a new fuel cap handy for comparison. So, what do you think I should do? It figuers that this would happen RIGHT after I'd spent close to $600 fixing a oil leak on the Suburban. :-( TIA Phil '99 Estoril, stubborn fuel cap that did not want to be put back on, but went on nonetheless after some elbow grease...

New Rogue Engineering RACEBRACE Chassis Reinforcement Rogue Engineering is pleased to announce their latest performance product, our RACEBRACE Chassis Reinforcement, for the E36! It's like a rollbar for your engine compartment! While we have been successfully selling our Carbon Fiber Strut Tower brace, we needed an alternative for those who had adjustable camber plates and adjustable shocks. We did not want to compromise our performance, engineering and price point goals in the process. The RE RACEBRACE is proudly made in the USA and offers the strength and rigidity of the NLA BMW Motorsport brace, but fits ASC+T vehicles. All this at a fraction of the BMW Motorsport brace price. Of course, the RACEBRACE would enhance the performance of those with a factory x-brace already installed on the vehicle. For a sneak peak at the new RACEBRACE, click here: http://tinyurl.com/yotppq For the first six (6) Suzy list members, we are offering a special discount of $60 on the RACEBRACE. #8. Toyo RA1s for DE Events - from Rich Dorffer
Top
Date: Mon, 4 Jun 2007 14:38:01 -0400 From: "Rich Dorffer" <E36M3Digest@gmail.com> Subject: Toyo RA1s for DE Events So, what is the consensus these days, to shave or full tread depth for the Toyo RA1 tires for DE Events? Last time, I shaved mine to 6/32" and they have lasted pretty well. Some have said that shaving them to this depth actually makes them last longer then unshaved (8/32") as the unshaved tread results in more squirm and heat and actually accelerates the wear early on. Therefore, 6/32" will last longer in total than 8/32". Any additional thoughts? Again, this is just for driving schools or lapping days, no racing. Regards, Rich

To go fast - shave 'em. To last - start full tread. Yes, they are a little squirmy to start with, but after that, they settle down to nice solid (if a little soft because of the plyability of the sidewall) performance. Mount fresh shaved tires on your car..Go get on the interstate drive 50 miles and then come home and jack the car up so the tires are not sitting onthe ground... Now you have a set of heat cycled tires that will last slightly longer than just shaved...
