One of the heaviest parts is the painted panel. The other stuff probably weights about 25 pounds. I bent up some 1" bar stock and bolted it to the factory roof panel, then used some black silicone to fill in the gap around the roof. Looks great from the top, but if this is a street car, I don't think you will be real happy with the inside. I still run the headliner, because it weights about 1 lb and looks better than the steel roof, but its black and the sunroof panel is silver. If you want some pics email me. I will probably weld the tabs in next winter when the rest of the interior comes out. Anyone out there have an easy way to remove the heavy sunroof cartridge and just affix the outside panel back in the hole. I am looking for a no weld/no paint solution. I have not taken this apart yet and the headliner is still in place, no idea what is under there. If welding is the only way, does it mess up the paint on the outside? I have seen the filler panel you can buy and it screws in place using the tabs that the OEM cartridge screws into, any experience with that out there? You can try cleaning them, but I don't think that's solved this particular issue for anybody (including me). You could also go to a competent BMW mechanic to get the fault read from the ABS computer - but be warned, you most certainly will have "wheel sensor" faults (mine did, and still does), but this will lead you down the wrong path. Also note that it's the ABS computer that needs to be read, not the "standard" DME faults. I don't want to have to argue with you like I did with those nitwits on Bf.c :-) Or, just follow my instructions, saving yourself time, effort & frustration. You're welcome :-) Jim Bassett- spending time, effort and getting frustrated so others won't have to :-)

I carry three sets of spacers for my car in the track box and which one I use depends on which wheels I'm running. I sold one set so things are a little less complicated now. I usually do a routine of laying down the tires next to the corner they're going on based on wear or markings if I bothered to mark which tire went where at the last event. I lay down the spacers that are going on next to the wheel. I change brake pads at that point as well so it's not like adding or removing a spacer is going to complicate things too badly. Cheers, Carlos 98 M3

If welding is > the only way, does it mess up the paint on the outside? To answer this part, yes. Welding creates a lot of heat, actually enough to warp the surrounding metal as well if the welder is not careful controlling the heat. I would suggest a bolt in solution so you don't have to deal with repainting. Carlos 98 M3
