Carlos, I remember hearing the same as you did, and I heard everything he said, despite partaking heavily of the Spaten on tap... For the record, after he cited small numbers of 4 door sales, he did ask if those in the crowd would buy one if they brought it over and the consensus answer was "yes." But, he cited that low production volumes of a car that would require special sheet metal over the base car would be a tough sell to the board in Munich. So what I heard was that it was unlikely we were to see one. He seemed equally negative on the prospects of a CSL given the lukewarm reception to the LTW. Satch also mentioned that Dave Farnsworth would be attending the launch in Spain when it happened. So two months after that you can read about it in Roundel...or you can just find the story quicker on the internet. So is that confirmed about the 4 door? The M brand manager spoke at the F1 Corral last weekend at Indy and when asked he quoted some sales numbers comparing the E36 M3 (combined 2dr and 4dr) and the E46 M3. It didn't sound to me like a 4dr E90 M3 made any sense from that stand point. I can't recall all that much about his speech frankly, the only thing I remember is that the launch of the E92 M3 would be in Europe next year (in Spain I think). #2. Tires - from Steven Hazard

It's my rain tire setup for track days and Solo 2 days as well. That's on the stock staggered LTW rims. Otherwise I'm on my 285/30/18's on 18x10" rims for all other carving. Cheers, Steve Anyone running 235s in front and 245s in the rear? Times coming up for some new shoes and I would like to minimize the understeer from the 225F/245R combo, but I do want the wider tires in the rear to fill out the well a bit better. Any comments about this setup? Brian build 8/95

When I fitted the oil pan, I had left the dipstick tube in and apparently the force I used in getting the tube through the o-ring/pan was enough to bend the securing bracket. This made it so the tube collar did not press down fully on the o-ring/pan. To fix, I removed the tube, bent the bracket, fitted a new o-ring and viola - no more oil leak. Thanks! Date: Thu, 21 Jun 2007 18:58:17 -0400 From: Greg Gantt <ggantt@gantt-consulting.com> Subject: Re: Oil Pump Nut Yes, I do have a lightweight pulley FWIW; I've had it on for about 20K miles. We did my friend's oil pump nut last weekend too and his was on there tight. He's got about 10K on his lightweight crankshaft pulley. Both of us track our cars. While it's not a large enough statistical sample, I don't think there's any correlation. My belief is that the whole shaft/sprocket/nut design used by BMW was not robust enough to prevent the nut from backing off. Combine that with subtle torque differences tightening the nut when he engine was assembled and the result is that some percentage will back off with no provocation. I suspect many M3s have already lost their nut and like mine had; they just haven't had enough force applied for the sprocket to come off the splines of the shaft. What I can tell you is that it took very little force for me to pull my sprocket off - I was just lucky to catch it before it fell off on its own. If I remember correctly, there was at least one post on the forums that said this oil pump nut behavior was highly correlated to using lightweight pulleys...sounds somewhat reasonable to me, though I don't have experience with the vibration calculations that might lead to this behavior. Haven't done differential equations in 6 years...and I hope I don't have to do them again any time soon. Anyone else know the true cause?

I have no interest in a 2-door. If going 2-door I'd probably either go for a used 996 or Cayman, or a new Z4-M coupe, or maybe the 135 instead. Yes, I know some of those are 2 seaters but that is OK for me as it would be one of 3 or 4 vehicles in our household.
