Lately she has been clamoring for a 328ci ragtop. Of course, she had no idea they cost $50K, she just thought they "looked neat". Great. Of course she didn't believe me when I told her I have never spent that on a car for me - the car crazy one in the household (she basically views cars and point a to b transportation). And she wasn't buying it. Actually, I did spend $50K on the E39 M5, but that is the only car I spent that kinda money on. Several in the $40K's - especially when you count SUV's, although those I get a huge tax deduction which helps out greatly. I also think it will look better in person than in photos, much like the 6-series does. And it looks worlds better than a Mazda3 to me!! Of course, we own the previous generation (Protege5) which I think looks better than the 3. Progress is not always improvement in the looks dept - case in point E39 vs. E60. I'm not moved at all by the 1 series and its intentionally petite proportions look very odd to me. The trouble is knowing what's really under the hood and the interior. I just checked out the 135 vs 335 and I have to say the 335 is the car for me. The 1 series has too stubby of a trunk and disgustingly odd brake lights. The front looks pretty good though. I might be convinced differently in 09 when I could actually afford one or the other. To me it isn't necessarily ugly, just not as good looking as the E90. I hope that BMW come to their senses & eventually bring the 5 door 135 stateside. I was all happy w/my current E36 M3 & MCoupe but now BMW is maing me think of ways to get this lil' 300HP monster. Sell some of my old E30's or even a couple of my bikes? I've held back my distaste for the new 1-series until you had the nerve to compare the looks to the Mazda3 hatch. ;-) My wife and her Mazdaspeed3 would not approve of your comparison. Heheh. I can't believe this new 1-series monstrosity is getting so much aesthetic praise. Maybe I need eye surgery again but I find it extremely butt ugly... sedan and hatch variations. But there is no LSD, even with the sport package. And the wheels are 18x7.5" (215's) and 18x8.5" (245's). But hey. add the LSD and some 18x9's all the way around, plus the SW upgrade to boost the power... Better yet, I wonder if our E36 wheels will fit the 1series? I have a set of BBS 18x9's that would be perfect. I think I may need to get one of these. Those of us in STU need to start writing letters now to allow twin-turbo's in STU. ;-) Chris

There is really no need for the rule restricting STU to a single turbo when there is a list of cars that aren't allowed, IMHO. So I'm going to write my letter, since currently even the 335i technically isn't legal for STU.
