But I will gladly give up some looks for the smaller size, better handling, superior brakes, and 300-400lb weight savings. Kinda like I would rather date the chick with the average looking face but hot body that is an animal in bed vs. the hot model looking gal with a pleasing but plumper body who just lays there :-) :-) Not to mention the 1 series, like the average looking gal - is cheaper and less high maintenance :-) Always works that way. haha Scott On Jun 28, 2007, at 4:27 PM, Raza Uddin wrote: > Date: Thu, 28 Jun 2007 16:20:24 -0700 > From: "Raza Uddin" <raza.uddin@gmail.com> > Subject: Re: [E36M3] 135 confirmed for '09 > > On 6/28/07, Mike VanAmburgh <mvanamburgh@charter.net> wrote: > > > >> I can't believe this new 1-series monstrosity is getting so much >> aesthetic >> praise. A little boxy for sure, but that belies the rather beefy engine stuffed under the hood. First thing from BMW since my E36 that even warmed my blood, and the first one to make it as desktop wallpaper in awhile. I suppose if money were no object, I'd opt for the new M3. But money is anything except for nothing to me. The thought of getting such a car for less than I paid for my M3/4 new is very appealing. My 2007 book says nothing about twin turbos in STU, and specifically allows the Audi S4 with it's 2.7L twin turbo, and the Toyota Supra. STX does mention only one turbo or SC. I can see how if you read the STX limits (with the one turbo or SC limit) and then read that STU raises the displacement limit to 3.1L FI, you might think that 2 turbos are out, but I don't think that's the intent. I could be wrong. -Paul -----Original Message----- From: cteague@cox.net [mailto:cteague@cox.net] Sent: Friday, June 29, 2007 11:42 AM To: Paul Andrews; E36M3 Subject: RE: [E36M3] 135 confirmed for '09 Paul, FI is legal, as you note, but twin turbos are not. A single turbo is. There is really no need for the rule restricting STU to a single turbo when there is a list of cars that aren't allowed, IMHO. So I'm going to write my letter, since currently even the 335i technically isn't legal for STU. Date: Fri, 29 Jun 2007 15:43:35 -0400 From: <cteague@cox.net> Subject: RE: [E36M3] 135 confirmed for '09 Paul, Nope. 14.12 section 3 from STX says "single turbo or supercharger" 14.13 says: "STU follows the STX rule set, but raises the displacement limit for otherwise STX-legal vehicles to 3.1 liters for forced induction and to unlimited dsplacement for natural aspiration." So 14.13 for STU does NOT remove the single turbo limit, and it does impose all other STX rules. I do agree, and so do others, that this was not the intent. But it is what is written. Also, both the Supra and Audi S4 are available in versions without twin turbos. I do think the intent WAS to allow the TT versions of these cars. It's just not what got written down. I've checked with the SEB on this. I do think this is a mistake, which is why we all need to submit letters to seb@scca.com If you get a different clarification from them, let me know.
