I wanted better cooling retention for the newly installed euro oil cooler, and this (with some slight modificiation to the vertical bit) ended up working out great. It also ended up helping to retain the brake ducting up as well (another nice benefit), and for another data point, mine fit perfectly. A proper splitter 'needs' to stick out btw. Yes, which is why the MaxVelocity Evo II, <http://maxvelocity.net/prd_e36_evo2.html, which also incorporates its own undertray, would potentially be interesting. However they went overboard on both the lip and the drop to the point where it's barely usable. Neil 96 M3

#7. E46 maintenance vs. E36 (was value of low mileage - from Kirk Lachman

Scott is correct, at least with the E46M3 anyway. I did the waterpump/thermostat/radiator on the '02 M3 this weekend. The waterpump/thermostat housing is the most diabolical part ever devised for a BMW. No less than 4 (FOUR!) o-rings to deal with in 3 different planes. WTF? About a tie for the fan shroud as the E46 has an electrical connector attached to it so you have to deal with that (vs. the hose that threads through the shroud in the E36). On the plus side, the E46M3 parts (radiator, hoses, water pump) seem to be made for a longer life than the E36 stuff. Perhaps BMW is thinking of the CPO 100k mile warranty? Cheers, Kirk Lachman Sin City Chapter '95 M3 #21 I-stock (Less than 50k miles! Only driven on weekends! <==all true) '02 M3 ~60k miles...

#8. OT: E39 M5 - from Foley, Brian
Top
Date: Mon, 30 Jul 2007 17:09:41 -0400 From: "Foley, Brian" <bfoley@cmpd.org> Subject: OT: E39 M5 Gruppe, I would like feedback from knowledgeable persons or owners regarding the E39 M5 sedan. My father is looking for a replacement for his older BMW. I know that clutches and tires are the typical weak points depending on how they've been driven. I'd also heard that these V8's do not have the cylinder liner problems inherent in the other E39 cars such as the 540i, and do not have the water pump problems our E36s have, but I'd like confirmation on that. I'm looking for typical selling prices (from private owners), cost for clutch replacement and any other issues to look out for. Feel free to respond off-list by private message.
