There is double stick tape, but there are sheet metal screws as well (four IIRC). Gotta fill the holes, AND then you need to source a high-rear center brake light for the back window if you want to stay 'technically' legal. On the plus side, I sold the wing and paid for most of the project. This calibre car should have come with ///M3 mats (or the owner had twelve years to pick up a set! What's up with that?) And with 6400 miles, those ///M3 mats should have looked near new.

Because the MaxV Evo II's 2" drop combined with the 3.25" lip extension combine to use up much of the available ground clearance, even by the standards of a track car. It would, I imagine, work fine with a stock M3 ride height, but of course that's not its market. A friend who has the Evo II on his race car has difficulty getting the car on and off his trailer safely. I see broken ones in the paddock, perhaps from unplanned agricultural use. My view is that the lowered Evo II splitter plus a lowered track car equals a bit too much lowering in total. I've not done it but the number of times I see it listed on various forums leads me to believe that it's not that hard. You still have to wrangle a third brake light, but at least you don't have to fill holes and you might well end up net-positive, $$$-wise. In case anyone thinks this is a good idea. I've always thought the wing completes the look of the car. Thanks, Mark

What was your reason for removing it? Weight savings or purely aesthetics? Does the wing do anything for aerodynamics or is it purely an appearance feature? I like the look of the stock wing but I'm sure it's purpose is mostly cosmetic. It probably provides a little bit of aero but nothing significant in my opinion. I'm switching mine to a LTW style with risers which still doesn't provide that much but enough for a track day type car. I like the wings on M3s (stock or PTG ones), mostly why I like the LTW so much. The cars look naked to me otherwise. Now aftermarket wings... barf. :-) Carlos 98 M3 winged, and soon horsey splittered

#10. Aftermarket wings on M3s - from Jason Knight

Date: Tue, 31 Jul 2007 09:46:55 -0700 (PDT) From: Jason Knight <knight2244@yahoo.com> Subject: Aftermarket wings on M3s Hey now, there are some good looking aftermarket wings out there. Let's see.... A little on the small side, but well proportioned with the front aero. Probably also mandated by SCCA: http://www.z28racergirl.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.ShowItem&g2_itemId=3862 This one is quite nice, and also balances front aero, which would be more visible if the photographer had taken a better pic: http://www.z28racergirl.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.ShowItem&g2_itemId=4174 I don't have a better angled shot of this one. It's probably closer to what you label barf, and doesn't have the sculptured shape of the more modern wings on the market (think of the barfy wing on the Corvette C6R). This is the more basic shape, what some call the Liebeck type wing (and similar to the wing my wife has on her car, the real reason I give a hoot about wings): http://www.z28racergirl.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.ShowItem&g2_itemId=4171 Then of course there's the ltw wing with risers: http://www.z28racergirl.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.ShowItem&g2_itemId=3871 And without risers (previous owner of my car pictured here) (and with the baby e30 m3 wing as a bonus): http://www.z28racergirl.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_view=core.ShowItem&g2_itemId=4177 Having driven friends' e30 m3s, evos, and wrxs, I don't care for driving a car with a wing on the street. I always get distracted when I look in the rearview. Enough about wings, I should get some work done. I tried to find a pic of Jim Bassett's wingless chariot (At least I'm pretty sure it was wingless last time I saw it a couple years back), but couldn't find one on short notice. Jason P.S. Just giving you a hard time about the barf thing. ;-) ----- Original Message ---- From: Carlos Lopez <clopez98m3@gmail.com> To: E36M3 <e36m3@bmw-m.net> Sent: Tuesday, July 31, 2007 8:13:58 AM Subject: Re: [E36M3] Rear Wing Removal Now aftermarket wings... barf. :-) Carlos 98 M3 winged, and soon horsey splittered
