The 225 really helps in the rain. I have been very pleased with this Kumho all season tire setup. High performance (cough) all seasons are a good compromise for the weather in central NC. How about some nice Kumho Ecsta ASX All season in 245/40-17? They are not great in 100 degree weather, but are AWESOME in hard rain and not scary like the Ecsta 712's in very light freezing rain/sleet/snow. Those of us with daily driver commuter M3's shod with all season rubber are just too embarrassed to talk about it I guess. While I'm confessing, I have a dent the size of a softball on my car that I haven't had fixed in 3 years. :( Oh the shame...95 M3Jonathan E.NC ***************

It was terrible in the rain with 195-wide Yoko ES100s, very nervous. Excellent in the rain with 205/50-15 Falken Azenis (215 or 615). Excellent in the snow with WS-50 Blizzaks (but downright dangerous in the dry). My M3 seems to not like the rain on the stock-size ContiSportContacts, but it's fine with 255 Yoko Neovas all around. In my experience, compound seems to make more of a difference than width, until you get into deep water or snow. The 888 is the same compound as the RA-1, just a stiffer sidewall and *noisy* tread pattern. My understanding is that you do not need to shave the 888 for driving school type use. Nitto NT-01 is getting rave reviews from club racers and you do not have the shave it either (and it is available from Discount Tire Direct). You could always buy the BFG R-comps at $220+ per tire...<gasp> Cheers, Kirk Lachman '95 M3 #21 I-stock (in pieces, moving to JP w/2.8 motor -- Bassett and Dadgar are going to be killing me...).

I have a hard time believing that the test conditions they used were terribly indicative. Further, the minute differences in lap times due to the extremely short nature of the course itself gives the impression that statistical noise is what they really measured. I would very much like to see a less autocross (and an extremely short one at that) based comparison. #9. CraPS resistance - from Brian Ruiz

Date: Tue, 11 Sep 2007 18:09:16 -0700 From: "Brian Ruiz" <eurowerke@gmail.com> Subject: CraPS resistance CraPS being the *crank* position sensor... I tested my sensor a few weeks ago and it read out 530 something ohms resistance, WAAAY far off from what the Bentley states as the correct value (1280 +- 10% ohms = 1152-1408 ohms). I bought a new sensor from the dealer, and it reads 520 something ohms. I guess the reading from it could be different after I mount the unit in the car, but now I wonder if the new one I have is bad (possible) or the Bentley is just completely wrong on the correct resistance value for the sensor (seems somewhat more likely). Does anyone know for sure if the reading will change once mounted, or if the value in the Bentley is just wrong? Brian build 8/95
