I haven't measured tread depth, but there doesn't seem to be excessive wear. I'm very happy with the grip and feedback, but they do tramline. They were barely acceptable to me from a tramlining standpoint when they were new, and they've gotten worse with time. Not saying it should be a deal-breaker for everyone; tramlining just drives me nuts, personally. That said, they're so good in so many other ways, I may just buy them again if the price is right. Or I might try the RE050s. Or I might go back to Michelin Pilots. It's good to be the king. Hey all, At my last track day, it was running hot under the stress of going hard, then falling back into normal operating temp when driven at a reasonable (sub 4k rpm) pace. My mechanic - some of the list members know Ramon - tells me this is a sign of impending headgasket failure. Does anyone have a spare head sitting around to sell? My plan is to send it off to Memphis Motorwerks to have them work their magic on it, then have it put back in the car. Thanks -jeff ____________________________________________________________________________________ Don't let your dream ride pass you by. Make it a reality with Yahoo! Jeff, I'd think that even it it was a HG going bad you should simply be able to replace the gasket and get the head inspected. It may need to be cleaned up and decked, but unless it's cracked or something you shouldn't need a new head. -Pete On 9/12/07, Dave DeBuhr <debuhr@comcast.net> wrote: > > Date: Wed, 12 Sep 2007 14:13:27 -0700 > From: "Dave DeBuhr" <debuhr@comcast.net> > Subject: RE: [E36M3] Anyone with an extra head? > > I know Ramon has a good rep here...but comon, are you losing coolant? > A blown HG is like being pregnant, Either it is or it isn't. You can have a small break in the head gasket that is next where coolant flows. Pushing hard causes exhaust gases to enter the cooling system, causing an overheating condition under high RPM/heavy load. Under normal stress you get nothing. You also won't see coolant in he oil or oil in your coolant. Head gaskets and heads can fail many ways. The interior panel does not slide back when closing automatically. It is making funny noises and the local dealer in IL is wanting a laughable $1725 dollars to fix it. They said the cassette needs replaced and it will take ~ 9 hours of labor Do any resources exist out there detailing how to do this? EXCEPT mine is even stranger.. Holds water fine. Go to the track under high heat load and it sprays coolant out of the side of the head gasket...No contamination anywhere, water oil , oil water, nothing! Drive it on the street under light loading and some spirited boosting (turbocharged) no problems! My best guess is the head is slightly warped and was not surfaced properly when I had it off and under high heat loading it expands just enough to let water spray out the side... I drive it every day now and its fine doesn't use any water....strange huh... Time for a HD turbo engine build! Gary ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kent L.
