Matt: your car overheated while you were in a SNOWSTORM? How hot was it outside while its snowing? I would think that even without ANY fan in a snow storm (<32 deg.) your car should not overheat. Never needed it when actually moving. If stationary, it really doesn't matter how cold it is, it will overhead because the water is not being cooled by the radiator. Just takes marginally longer in cold weather than hot. When I worked at a gas station in Rochester, NY a guy rolled in with a steaming overheated car. The radiator froze solid in the -10F weather and no coolant flow. When I was younger we were stuck in traffic in maybe 25F weather in a car that had a busted rad fan and it slowly but surely began to overheat. Thanks, Mark

#4. [E36M3] HID now get Low Beam Failure message - from debuhr@comcast.net
Top
Date: Sat, 15 Sep 2007 02:14:00 +0000 From: debuhr@comcast.net Subject: [E36M3] HID now get Low Beam Failure message I installed a set of ZKW ellipsoids last night that came with HID bulbs installed. I now get the Low Beam failure message on the OBC. I tried replacing the fuses with 15A but still get the message. I'll probably swap the 7.5A back in since they were probably rated that way from the factory for a reason. Any ideas? Thanks, Dave 98 M3/4

Thanks, > Not helpful at all, but I have a pair of sylvania OSRAM's illegally mounted in stock housings without glare deflectors. They've been fine for years, and then one day the one lamp blew the fuse. I popped another 7.5 amp fuse in and it blew that instantly. I popped a 15 amp fuse in and it worked fine. Then I popped another 7.5 amp fuse in and it was still fine. Very strange behavior, like the ballast capacitors needed to charge at a high amperage and then they were fine. Regarding your issue, replacing the fuses don't help. I don't know the nature of how the computer detects a blown bulb but I guess there's minimum and maximum voltage drop thresholds. Your new bulbs are probably higher wattage causing a greater voltage drop than the maximum threshold and thus tripping the OBC. Really seems kind of stupid to me... It should only trip when it's open or shorted (in which case the fuse will blow and it'll then be open). Do you get both low beam failures. Have you subbed one in for the other. put a halogen back in one, etc? Thanks, Mark

It is nothing like the community that we have here. My short experience is that it's very clicky, harsh and abraisive. Its search feature is of limited use, but if you don't spend hours trying it before asking a question you are pounced upon by those who apparently devote every waking minute to knowing more about the FORUM (not necessarily the CARS) than anyone else. Most of the egos are just too big there. I've made a few E90 posts, but I'm tired of the abuse. I'm finished. Dave Hogg

#8. OT: Car tries to fit under guardrail through 1 ft space - from Skip Bogard

Date: Sat, 15 Sep 2007 10:11:24 -0400 From: Skip Bogard <skip.bogard@alumni.duke.edu> Subject: OT: Car tries to fit under guardrail through 1 ft space I had no idea you could squeeze a lot of front engined car through a 1 ft space. Of course when the warning sign says "20" [mph], you can't without a lot of extra kinetic energy. In 2006 this made it to the RX8, Acura, Cadillac, G35, Elisetalk, Miata, & Vette lists. I don't think it made it to any BMW list, so for those who didn't see this I thought it's worth a look. No blood but both airbags deployed. Anything else, 30+, can usually be taken at the posted real speed limit with no problem in a well handling car. The road from my house to our bar can be driven at a legal limit of 55 (+10) except for a couple turns marked either 20 or 25. Those you have to brake for, at least down to 45.
