The dealer informed me that their system says not to replace the flange or nut and won't give part numbers. So I'm looking for a 6 bolt diff flange. Brett gave me the replacement tip, and yes, I believe him over the dealer ;-) Chris B.

Test showed that they are OK but it was done on cold schocks. I feel that after some driving the schocks are getting much softer. will replace them probably soon as well. #7. OT - speaking of Mazda - RX8 - from Scott McClung

Date: Fri, 21 Sep 2007 16:40:52 -0700 (PDT) From: Scott McClung <smlists@pacbell.net> Subject: OT - speaking of Mazda - RX8 Speaking of Mazda's, I was at the dealer today looking at the RX8. Took a base model w/ 6-speed for a test drive. They are blowing out the 07's right now and the 24 month lease is looking mighty attractive. Very nice car. Quite responsive steering with good feel - power assist could be a tad less, but I tend to think that about almost all cars - except maybe the M3 (E36) - that one is about as perfect as I've seen - well, maybe the NSX is better but that might be manual steering. I did not get to check out the grip, but in a long sweeper it is very stable with no perceived shifting or bad manners. The car does have 50/50 wt. dist, and only weighs 3Klbs, which is not bad for a 4 seater car with all the latest safety stuff. Chassis stiffness seems to be quite good - I drove on some really bad freeway and the NVH is outstanding for a sports car with low profile rubber. Shifter, clutch, trans - all work very smoothly and the pedals are well placed for h&t. Power is adequate as long as revs are kept above 4K. Motor is dead smooth up to the 8500 yellow-line, which is as high as I took it. Anyway - I was quite impressed with how well connected to the driver the car is. Seems similar to the E36 M3 in that regard. I have not driven many cars that give me that feeling - of the performance cars I've owned or driven, I would put it this way: - E36 M3 - yes - RX8 - yes - E39 M5 - no - Evo 9 - yes - 330i - no - CTSV - no - Z06 - no - C4 Corvette - yes - Z3 M roadster - yes - NSX - yes - C5 Corvette - no - STi - yes - Z4 - yes And interesting that the RX8 is the lightest car in that group too. I have not driven a Miata. I am sure it would feel even more connected. But somehow I just can't see myself in a Miata. Maybe a S2000 if I were to go topless. But currently I am looking for something with a roof so I can take it on the track w/o adding a roll-bar. I am contemplating selling my race car as I truly have far too many hobbies and interests for the time I have available. And I think I'd rather give that up than my 69 Camaro at this point. And I need to do something at some point because driving a full sized pickup nearly every day is starting to drive me nuts... Scott '69 Camaro - Pro Touring '83 Camaro CMC race car '06 Titan

I bought a 2005 330CI with 24k and in perfect condition. I bought the car for $29k and got $21k for the Boxster in trade. Actually, when considering tax, I got about $23k for the Boxster which is basically what I thought it would fetch. I honesty don't miss it. It was ok but the Boxster S or 996 didn't do much for me. The 330 is really an excellent all around car. Smooth, refined, and handles very well. 10 years apart and the 95 M3 still looks great next to it! It has been awhile since I've owned one, and I really miss having one as a daily driver. I also know they make decent track cars as I have had some seat time in my old car at LSIR and THill. But, the M3 is a 10 year old car and I need to outlay cash vs. doing a 2 year lease on an RX8, which is brand new and under full warrantee and basically nothing out of pocket and minimal payments. Most likely I will do nothing right now, though.
