Has a metal stick probe on it, and you can touch it to parts under the hood to isolate noises. Hi Marc, That's a great idea. I think Harbor Freight even sells them?! cheers, Bob Gill 97 ///M3 coupe Philly Region SCCA 2005 / 2006 Philly Region BSP Champion Sponsored by Wheel Collision Center & Rogue Engineering ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com

So I have the head off and I've got a fair bit of cleaning to do before I even think about putting stuff back together. What is the common tool/drill add-on I should be using to get the carbon off of the piston heads? Thanks -jeff ____________________________________________________________________________________ Looking for a deal? Find great prices on flights and hotels with Yahoo! Not sure what to use on a BMW. In the past I used a stiff brush (brass) with a little petrol. YMMV. If brake/carb cleaner does not help try to find some 'Chem-Dip'...that stuff eats carbon like crazy. Also, try to stay away from Scotch Brite as the little fibers can cause havoc on an assembled engine. Main thing is to avoid scratching any of the surfaces which is why I try to use plastic, but sometimes you gotta use something stiffer, so just use a lot of care if you need to resort to a metal gasket scraper or anything like that.. What is the common tool/drill > add-on I should be using to get the carbon off of the piston heads? BTW: Take great care to not allow any carbon to get between the pistons and the cylinder bore. You can pack a little grease around the edge of the pistons to trap the bits of carbon...makes it easy to dig the little pieces out with a dental pick or something when you are done. Following up with a powerful shop vac is also a good idea. Dave

#7. any method to prevent poly bushings from squeaking - from Mdriver13@aol.com

Date: Thu, 4 Oct 2007 22:27:00 EDT From: Mdriver13@aol.com Subject: any method to prevent poly bushings from squeaking Group, Next week, I will be installing RTABs, front LCABs, and subframe bushings -- all polyurethane. I've heard these can and do squeak. Is there any proven method to keep this from happening? Like the liberal use of silicone grease, etc. TIA, Bob Gill 97 ///M3 coupe - with very old OEM bushings Philly Region SCCA 2005 / 2006 Philly Region BSP Champion Sponsored by Wheel Collision Center & Rogue Engineering ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com

As soon as I get the head back on, I'll give it a shot. Gimme a break, too, wilya? I've only had it for ~5k of the 135k on the odo. :) -jeff ----- Original Message ---- From: Marco Romani <marco@corsa-na..com> Huh: after 70K miles on my S50 when I pulled the head I could still see the markings on the piston saying S50 on them. #10. m50 manifold - from Matt Bader
Top
Date: Fri, 5 Oct 2007 07:07:37 -0400 From: "Matt Bader" <mbader@exammaster.com> Subject: m50 manifold I had a chance to drive my car much more last night, and it really does feel stronger with the manifold swap. It's difficult to evaluate whether I have less torque at the lower rpms (as some report with this manifold) or whether my torque curve has shifted higher. Maybe over time I'll get a better sense of that, and I plan on having the car dyno'd in any case. But, the difference in power is noticeable. I believe the noise I am hearing is air coming out of the by-pass valve when I am off throttle, but not sure why I didn't have that before the manifold swap. Matt Bader 98 M3/4 Delaware
