What I ended up doing was to pull out the vertical portion of the rear seat (not easy), and then I took a rubber mallet wrapped in cloth, and whacked the underside of the headrest, and voila, the whole think popped off, posts and all. I was expecting just the headrest to pop off with the posts still stuck in the rear deck area, so I was surprised to see the whole thing come off, posts and all, and without obvious damage to the headrest. While I had the seats out I was able to remove a bunch of heavy soundproofing and put the seats back in with still a good fit. Matt Bader 98 M3/4 Delaware

Now my "marble in a can" noise is gone! Everyone (myself included) thought I had a diesel M3 before! All kidding aside, I have done this, and my marble noise is gone now. Powerwise, I can't tell a difference. But the noise being gone is worth it! One thing though, now I hear my stupid valve noise! This is a side effect of having a quiet VANOS I guess. I dealt with Chris directly. Great guy, great customer service, and understanding in my delay. No complaints here. ________________________________________________ Message sent using UebiMiau 2.7.10

#8. Dr. Gas crossover longevity & reported results of original system for - from Skip Bogard

Date: Tue, 09 Oct 2007 16:18:04 -0400 From: Skip Bogard <skip.bogard@alumni.duke.edu> Subject: Dr. Gas crossover longevity & reported results of original system for '95 M3 (was Re: [E36M3] group buy) Just some history on the Dr. Gas crossover longevity. Carl Buckland I believe had the first (or one of the first) ever developed Dr. Gas Crossover for his machine he would autocross. It required a Supersprint header & a Jim Conforti chip (and also I think used the Euro HFM setup for the '95 M3 Jim developed. Several years after running it, I seem to recall that Carl was looking for a new one because the original had rusted through (unlike his Supersprint Header & BMW exhaust which was till intact. BMP had sold the last complete sets, so he couldn't even buy a crossover as part of a full kit. I don't mention this because of availability...but because of the longevity (corrosion resistance) concerns you may or may not have. Also, don't quote me on this....but I think he said something like "more HP at the high-end RPM's, but less HP & torque at the low-end. His theory was that the "HP curve got pushed around, but a gain somewhere resulted in a loss somewhere else. He felt that this was because with the Supersprint/Dr. Gas setup one wasn't varying anything actively [like the vanos does]...all you could do was push the curve around but not increase the surface area under the curves. FWIW, that is what I remember. YMMV - Skip

You should not need anything real special...perhaps just a few taps with a small hammer...might be able to just pull it off with your hand. Worst case might be using a slide hammer to pop it off.
