What exactly is an electronic limited slip and how does it work? Bean counter wants to know. Ahmad The rear differential on the 1 Series comes from a new generation of final drives optimized for running smoothness. Featuring double-helical ball bearings for the first time, the differential runs at an even lower operating temperature reached more quickly than before thanks to the reduction of fluid required in the differential. Like the 1 Series Coupe, the Convertible features an electronic limited slip function built into the vehicle's Dynamic Stability Control system.

If it spends some time on the track, you will certainly benefit from a true LSD. However, keep in mind you can always get an aftermarket limited slip unit and maybe at the same time go to the next shorter gear for better accelleration too for what $3-4K or so? Even with that mod and a few others you can be into the car for under $40K which seems like a pretty good value to me for a performance sports coupe with the capabilities the car should have. I would expect it to hang with 2002+ 996's easily. I'm watching it too. When will they be out - spring like the M3?
