#1. hole in center of rim... - from Shelhart2@aol.com

Date: Sat, 20 Oct 2007 18:56:09 EDT From: Shelhart2@aol.com Subject: hole in center of rim... I was driving my 05 330CI to work Friday and ran over something. The adventures of driving on I4 in Orlando never cease to amaze me... Not only did the object pierce the tire but actually put a dime size hole in the center of the rim. I've never seen anyhting quite like it. Needless to say, I need to get it repaired. The stealer wants $550 for the rim and they just happen to have it in stock. Does anyone have any experience trying to fix an alloy rim with a hole in the middle of the rim? I assume one of the rim repair shops that can weld aluminum should be able to fill it and make sure it balances.... I am not a big fan of repairing 1 piece cast aluminum wheels when good used (or new) replacements are available for a few hundred more. I bet you could track down a used one at a fair price pretty easy. Dave

I'll bet your dealer has a used one. our dealership has tons of "used" stock wheels that come off brand new cars upon delivery because the new owner got custom rims. They never seem to be accounted for after the car leaves. Know what I mean? I would never attempt a fix on a BMW stock wheel. The new wheels are no better than they were in the 80's. Just bigger and more expensive. jon ______________________________________________ Jon Siccardi - DM #053 TreehouseRacing.com M50conversion.com 615.333.9118 ______________________________________________ ----- Original Message ----- From: <Shelhart2@aol.com> To: "E36M3" <e36m3@bmw-m.net> Sent: Saturday, October 20, 2007 6:04 PM Subject: [E36M3] hole in center of rim... > Date: Sat, 20 Oct 2007 18:56:09 EDT > From: Shelhart2@aol.com > Subject: hole in center of rim... > > I was driving my 05 330CI to work Friday and ran over something. If you're hooked on a new one, try mileoneparts.com My friend did the same thing (put a hole in the rim of his 03 330i) and they had the best price available. Granted, there are probably 100+ sets of stock wheels for sale at the same price as one new wheel. -jeff ----- Original Message ---- From: David Thomas <dave@sasdatalink.com> On Saturday 20 October 2007 4:04:20 pm Shelhart2@aol.com wrote: > > Does anyone have any experience trying to fix an alloy rim with a hole in > the middle of the rim? The problem is now that I only have 3 rims so a new set is in my immediate future. I'm sure my wife will be excited as I just got a set of BBS CH motorsports wheels for the 95 M3 :) I did a little research and found Turner has the 18" double spoke for the E46 at $198 each. Seems like a decent price and I can then simply swap the tires (staggered). How is the quality and pricing on the Velocity wheels? TIA. #10. deck (trunk/boot) lid question - from Russ Doucet
Top
Date: Sat, 20 Oct 2007 22:38:59 -0400 From: "Russ Doucet" <russ@russdoucet.com> Subject: deck (trunk/boot) lid question Is anyone familiar with E36 deck lid differences? Are i sedan lids compatible with 4-door M3? iS lids with 2-door M3s? I know 2-door lids don't fit on 4-door cars. Any significant changes between early and late E36s? How much different are the shocks on a lid with a spoiler vs a plain lid? Did any of the later deck lids come with LED spoiler brake lights from factory or is that always aftermarket? How many different spoilers were offered on factory cars? Thanks trivia buffs. J -Russ.
