I am going prepared class with the car which will allow me to take the aux fan and condenser out (you can in stock class too, but I really liked my a/c in the pits before I got the cool suit!). I did get the Zionsville unit w/the puller fan. It is a nice piece of kit. P.S. I did have the pan baffled and oil pump pick up point optimized while he was in there doing the oil pump nut. Tell me more about this pick up point optimization tidbit. How was it optimized (heading to machine shop to have VAC oil pan baffle installed tomorrow)... BTW: I've seen oil temps as high as 290 deg F during summer races in my stock class car (i.e., a/c condensor still there) with a stock radiator. Adding the Zionsville radiator dropped oil temps approx 40 degrees, depending on outside temps. If you want to see scary temps, put a temp sensor on your transmission. It isn't pretty. I'd love to see numbers starting with a 2 instead of a 3 in the summer. =8^O Cheers, Kirk Lachman Sin City Chapter ************************************************* Please help support the E36M3 list by visiting our sponsors: Bimmerworld http://www.bimmerworld.com Turner Motorsport http://www.turnermotorsport.com Eurosport High Performance http://www.eurosporthighperformance.com Rogue Engineering http://www.rogueengineering.com Treehouse Racing http://www.treehouseracing.com Elephant Motorsports Inc. http://www.elephantmotorsports.com DIGEST INFORMATION: http://www.bmw-m.net/resources/digest_info.htm ************************************************* -- Thanks, Ben

I usually run the heater through the upper vents (pointed away from me). Until I got the cool suit I was miserable in the car. The cool suit makes all the difference in the world and has been pretty much the best investment I've made in a long, long time (racing wise). You all need to remember, we raced at Willow Springs in July this year. I think the temps were, ummm, f'n hot. I'd have to double check the race data, but I think air temp was 105-ish and track temp was around 150-ish. Bleh. Tire temps were ugly and the track was a bit slickery. #7. Car Noises/involuntary tow - from Matthew Finlay

Date: Fri, 26 Oct 2007 09:43:20 -0500 From: "Matthew Finlay" <matthew.finlay@gmail.com> Subject: Car Noises/involuntary tow Thanks for all the help with my involuntary towing drama, everyone. I did have the car looked at professionally. Funny enough, when I dropped it off on Saturday afternoon, the noise was completely gone. The shop didn't hear the noise either when they checked it on Monday. Their guess was that oil had leaked down out of the hydraulic lifters. Is it possible that turning the engine over a few times when loading it onto the tow truck might have caused the oil to leak out of the lifters? Since the oil pump wouldn't have been running, this might be logical. The car does drive perfectly...and I've got some new tires, bridgestone RE01R's. They commented that the side walls were ridiculously stiff when they tried to put them on, and so far that seems to correspond to the road feel through them though I'm by no means an expert. Now the car's body roll is driving me bonkers. I've gotta order those suspension parts soon! msf

They're super noisy, but I definitely don't care considering how well they grip. Fantastic street tire. Thanks, Mark

What are you complaining about - you live in a frickin' *desert* :-) Similar temps are experienced at Thill in July/Aug - not pretty. As a data point, I see ~250F oil temps in the JP car. No oil cooler, A/C complete & functional :-) Jim Bassett
