Kirk, Just bleed the valve with a cloth and a screwdriver and be done with it. A fair bit of oil is in the system so it can be messy once you start taking things apart. I gave my shot at recycling locally and pretty much got the same response the list provided. Max '97 M3

They have been modified to be E36 specific. I have had a machine shop make cups that fit the hockey pucks perfectly, so there is little to no possibility of the car sliding off them. The pucks are welded to the original saddle on the jackstand by a friend who is a nuke-certified welder. I will sell them for 50% of Griot's price, which is $50.00US (okay, $0.02 cents over 50%...) + shipping from 63088 (St. Louis area). I sold the M3 ~2 1/2 years ago and need to get these out of my garage. Now where is that broom handle.... Just to follow up: I ended up taking a Dremel with a cut-off disc and trimmed about 5MM of the inner finder lip on both sides of the car. I only needed to trim an area about three inches long starting where the bumper cover meets the fender. You can hardly tell anything has been trimmed, and more importantly, no more rubbing. I am close to Evosport and considered taking the car over there to have them roll the lip...but I am not very patient and wanted it fixed tonight...so Dremel to the rescue. Dave

For example, I'd thought Lincoln jacks were only made here in the US, turns out they've gone overseas towards the end of the '90s (I don't know that quality suffered, I think design didn't change at least - but makes me wonder where my Lincoln was built).

Think that Steve also has flat pads to support E36s better. You'll also want a jackplate so you can pick up the car, then support it on each corner. Marc Plante E36 M3/4/5 Vienna, VA

Date: Fri, 2 Nov 2007 07:53:56 -0500 From: "Matthew Finlay" <matthew.finlay@gmail.com> Subject: Jacks and stands I was cruising the Craftsman club advertisement in bed last night and saw a nifty jack that incorporates the jackstands into the jack itself. It's pricey at $250 (jack and 2 stands included), but I thought it was a neat concept. The idea is that you would place the jack under one of the jack points, raise the car, and remove the jack, leaving the integrated jackstand in place under the jack point. Neat concept. Doesn't meet your price point needs, though! In fact, a couple 2x4's to raise the car enough to fit a cheaper jack under it are a heckuva lot cheaper... > Since I'm going to be doing some major rear end work and would like to > > have the car resting on 4 jack stands securely, I'm looking for a high > > quality floor jack for near $100 and stands that cost around $30 a pair. > > Is this simply not possible? IIRC it's something over 5", too high for our cars. I'm more interested in reputed quality and not having to buy one in 2 years again. Thinking back though, my pep boys special isn't used very often but it is something around 7 years old. It's honestly lasted a whole lot longer than I could have imagined. The lady is challenging me on buying a jack and stands stating that we intend to buy a lift in a year or two so why bother. Who can argue with that!? Thanks, Mark

Jack pad plus my current crappy jack plus good stands. Seems like a winning combo to me... Though I wonder can you safely use some wood with the jack pad to elevate the car higher? The jack pad point is pretty high up on the car. Also the E46 doesn't seem to have covers for jack pads now that I look! Thanks, Mark
