But, seeing that video, where the guy didn't appear to be going all that fast, and really had his head/neck jolted, not to mention what happened to the seat. I had also considered removing the side air bags to save weight and have abandoned that idea for the moment. The race seats, with the upper bolsters, just are not practical on the street, so you have to make compromises. For one, I never had any idea that the typical racing seat was expected to provide any safety features other than holes for the 5 point harness. This list is invaluable. There's a similar debate amongst motorcycle helmets of which I've done a lot of research. The theory is that DOT helmets are safer than SNELL helmets. The rationale is that in light impacts they provide better cushioning and prevent injury. The catch 22 is that the SNELLS fare much better in more serious impacts. Which would you prefer? I for one would rather have a wicked headache after a small accident due to my rigid helmet then be dead after a more serious one due to my inadequate helmet. The video was very interesting to me as an aggressive street driver with regular old vaders with positively no side support. Seems like every day I see something that makes me drop my street cruising speed 1mph, and further increases the expense of my future track car :-P I often wondered if it made sense to go with 5 point harnesses in my street cars. I drove a friend's car with the Cobra (I *think*) and it was very well padded, bolstered, halo'd and so forth. The materials used in the cover seem of better quality than my similarly priced Sparco and I'm sure they have published crash sled data somewhere to compare against too.

The strutcture of the seat I have is great (Racetech 4009WHRV), but the covering next to my old Cobra Suzuka GT is cheap in comparison. The Cobra Suzuka covering looks like it will last forever (I know it won't, but you get the idea). #4. Brake Rotors??? Brake Kits? - from Kent L. Shephard

I'm thinking of buying the Euro Rotors. ($450) I have also seen some kits using either Wilwood or PBR calipers and 10-20mm larger rotors. ($900+) So the question is, first are the Euro rotors worth the coin? Are the kits worth the differential over the Euro rotors. I have some Brembo drilled rotors on the car and I get pad build up like crazy. I do a lot f freewa driving and it feels like rotor warpage when I stop. If a do a few hard stops most of the vibration goes away for a while. Swapping pads might be an option. I just want he vibration gone! I forget what pads I'm using but I think they are PBR. Any combinations that work and don't put deposits on the rotors or warp?? Thanks, Kent

For street and occasional track/autox?: Plain Brembos & some pad that someone else will have to recommend, as I'm out of touch on pads for this application :-) For track use only?: Plain Brembos & a race pad like Hawk Blues/HT10/etc, ducted as necessary. BTDT with the Euro rotors for track application. No difference over plain stock rotors IME. And at the time I could get plain Brembos for $40/pair, easy decision :-) My 2 cents, Jim Bassett

I recently put some stock Jurid pads on our E30....forgot how good of an all-around pad those are. Yea, dirty as hell, but they have awesome cold bite and just feel good in general. Really easy on rotors too. Dave

#10. FW: windshield washer problem update - from Reed Nicholson

Date: Sat, 17 Nov 2007 12:30:38 -0800 From: "Reed Nicholson" <reedthis@comcast.net> Subject: FW: windshield washer problem update Ordered new heated washer nozzles and installed them today. Simple job and they now work like new (since they are). I think the lesson is that, like almost everything else, they need to be used occasionally to keep them functional. Reed/Seattle _____ From: Reed Nicholson [mailto:reedthis@comcast.net] Sent: Wednesday, November 07, 2007 10:42 AM To: 'E36M3' Subject: windshield washer problem My windshield washer was suddenly not squirting. Lots of juice in the jug, could hear the motor running when I pulled the handle, so I used a needle to clean the hood jets. They did not seem to be clogged, and still nothing. I pulled the motor up out of its mounting spot on the jug and the juice came flowing out, then replaced the motor. Tried it again and everything was now working, but not aimed correctly. I used the needle again to aim the jets, and now they're not squirting again, I just get air and bubbles. I can't find anywhere along the hose that seems to be pinched or leaking. Any ideas what's going on? Thanks, Reed/Seattle
