The idiot light is good because it gives you an immediate warning that you will miss with a gauge. Hard G turns bring my warning light on, so I need a baffle. I think my car is around 12-13 PSI at idle if I recall correctly. I also think there is value to oil temperature gauge, both for knowing when the oil is sufficiently heated to allow for full revving, and to check overall temperature during hard driving. -----Original Message----- From: Carlos Lopez [mailto:clopez98m3@gmail.com] Sent: Sunday, November 18, 2007 9:45 AM To: E36M3 Subject: Re: [E36M3] RE: Oil light question Date: Sun, 18 Nov 2007 09:41:07 -0500 From: "Carlos Lopez" <clopez98m3@gmail.com> Subject: Re: [E36M3] RE: Oil light question On Nov 18, 2007 1:04 AM, Ivan Petrov <crazyinp@hotmail.com> wrote: > I have 150K miles, looks like my car idle really low a little over 500, so > probably 550-600RPMs and if I just touch the gas pedal a little to move the > RPMs to around 700-750 no more oil light. Call up DSR and get software with a bump in idle revs. I know Conforti/Eurosport does this for cars with ltw flywheels. And as Mark mentioned, you shouldn't rely on stock gauges if you have a beyond stock motor. Get something aftermarket with at least oil pressure but I like to know what oil temp and coolant temp is as well. #4. Bay Area bodyshops? - from Reid Conti

Date: Sun, 18 Nov 2007 11:31:01 -0800 From: "Reid Conti" <reid@conti.net> Subject: Bay Area bodyshops? Does anybody have a recommendation for a bodyshop in the SF Bay Area? I live in the south bay, so nearby is preferable. Never needed any bodywork done since I lived here, so I really have no clue. I need to get a new front bumper cover put on, as the old one is hopelessly chipped and peeled. It'll be on my dime, so of course cost is a factor, but mostly I just want it done right. I figure anywhere I take it will be in the 1000-1500 range anyway. Thanks! - reid

Seattle seems to have a better reputation, but they both seem much more disliked than the one way down in Fife, which is probably worth the trip for a purchase, but not so much for services. Personally, I'd probably buy from whomever gave me the best deal, and have it serviced wherever is most convenient.. and just be prepared to hammer on them if they don't treat you right. - reid On 10/31/07, David Michael <adavidmichael@gmail.com> wrote: > Date: Wed, 31 Oct 2007 16:04:35 -0400 > From: "David Michael" <adavidmichael@gmail.com> > Subject: OT: BMW of Seattle vs BMW Bellevue > > Hi Folks > > This is slightly OT, but do folks out in Western WA have any opinions on the > Seattle vs Bellevue dealerships? I have had really good experiences with two BMWs at Sunnyvale Auto Body (they are the preferred body shop for BMW of Mountain View). On my old '95 M3, I wasn't happy with the work the first time and they redid it no-questions-asked. Date: Sun, 18 Nov 2007 17:19:41 -0500 From: "David Michael" <adavidmichael@gmail.com> Subject: Re: [E36M3] OBC Conversion Jeff. I did this conversion based on thee directions on bimmerforums, pelican parts as well as my own research using a copy of the TIS wiring diagrams (more detailed than Bentley). It can be as easy or difficult as you like, depending on how "OEM" you want the install to be. The "quick and dirty" way splices into the wring harness using the awful 3m-connectors, typically doing so directly behind the IC. The "correct" way is to use the proper color wires to run back to the correct wiring junction. In this case, it's mostly the big wiring block way up high under the dash on the drivers side kick panel (ie-"above" the hood release handle). There are some other wires that need to new pins on the IC connectors, as well as some stuff behind the glovebox. I found all the correct wires at the junction box except one. That one I had to splice into the correct wire down by the steering column. I did the installation without replacing the turnsignal to get the fingertip control, and I did not hook the wire up that goes to the alarm system (behind the glovebox). Everything else works, and it took at least 10 hours, but most of that was thinking and wire harness making. I bought a 10 pack of the correct (small) gauge wire, and marked them with paint pens to make the correct "stripe" color. There are no 3m connectors in the install. The number of wires you need to hook up is not a problem, but doing it nicely is time consuming. Let me know if you have any questions Dave 98 M3/4 On Nov 17, 2007 9:54 AM, Jeff Bjerke <jbjerke@charter.net> wrote: > Date: Sat, 17 Nov 2007 9:45:11 -0500 > From: Jeff Bjerke <jbjerke@charter.net> > Subject: OBC Conversion > > Has anyone tried this: > > E-Bay Item # 150182336498 > > My OBC is the base one and has several pixels missing.
