I used it on the corners of the half moon cutout. I used very little and applied it very evenly to the gasket as well as the cylinder head. No leaks. I also forgot to put sealer on the corners of the timing cover. No leaks :) That said after leaving my car in the garage overnight I have a nice black puddle that I have to track down the source of. I hope it's an oil leak which would explain my oil consumption as of late. I don't hope it's an oil leak because it's probably front or rear crank seal which would more or less mean bottom end rebuild for me. Thanks, Mark

Also a drop should be applied at the VANOS assembly seam - both ends. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=BG93&mospid=47488&btnr=11_ 1480&hg=11&fg=15 The 'stuff' BMW uses is or becomes hard (almost brittle) maybe someone can identify the correct sealant for this application. #4. Rear Diff Service - from Mark D

Date: Mon, 19 Nov 2007 11:51:51 -0500 From: Mark D <mdlkml@atari-source.com> Subject: Rear Diff Service Hey guys, I am going in to do differential bushings on my girlfriend's new (to us) 1999 e46 323 sedan. To those that don't know, this involves dropping the exhaust and possibly the subframe though I don't think so, unbolting, both half shafts as well as drive shafts, then dropping the rear diff. (Mandatory M3 content: I love practicing on a cheap car what my more expensive car is going to need too) I built a tool out of plumbing supplies and threaded rod and bought an air chisel (because that's the ONLY way you should remove old bushings (speaking from experience) :-D) Have any of you guys ever had a whining diff? This car's diff whines when it's cold at low speeds and quiets down above 40mph. I'm thinking low on fluid since it looks like dried up oil under there but I know very different animal when it comes to the diff internals. Any suggestions for balancing the diff and the easiest removal method for dropping it onto a jack? I plan on draining and cracking open the diff to replace the seal as well as giving it fresh fluid before putting it back in so I guess we'll see what it looks like inside and how the oil looks when I drain it. Anyone have recommendations for what I should fill it back up with (bearing in mind, it's just a regular 323, not an LSD) If I dont' get any, I'll just look for what's in the manual in some full synthetic variant. Thanks, Mark

I ordered those expensive hoses and its not right. Our M3 uses the hoses form a 325i. check 94 325i. After I removed my original hoses and cross check the part #s printed on the hoses. it comes up as 94 325i. The correct hoses are only $10 each or so. now I am stuck with $200 of hoses I can't return (special order). Anyone with a 328 need heater hoses cheaper than dealer prices???? The data logging and displays now work very well. I was getting very intermittent data from the M3...lots of blank screens or zeros. Now I get solid updates. I don't know if the fix was in the ScanTool software or in the WM bluetooth code, but it works much better now. It had always worked well with my 1998 Tahoe, strangely enough. -Pete

Only interior bits I've sold so far are the 3-spoke steering wheel, shifter boot and lighted knob, HK rear speakers and amp. Everything else is still available. Car had a light grey interior, so seats and insets were light grey, most other parts are dark grey and your occasional black piece. ;) OBC and recently refurbished climate control and all airbags except steering wheel one also available. Email me off the list for what you need and I can send pics. Prefer SoCal, but willing to ship the small stuff. Only things not for sale are the dash itself, door sills and most wiring. Jonathan L.
