More specifically, I need a couple of measurements taken of the stack height of the assembled unit from the tip of the pressure plate fingers to either the crank mounting face or the ring gear. A couple of pictures would be helpful as well but not necessary. Please contact me directly if you think you can help and I can provide more detailed info. This is for a BMW project but not M3 related. Thank you and Happy Thanksgiving. #7. Seats and Harnesses - from Matt Bader
Top
Date: Fri, 23 Nov 2007 08:26:52 -0500 From: "Matt Bader" <mbader@exammaster.com> Subject: Seats and Harnesses I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving. I am planning for next year when I will be doing some driver's schools and maybe some other non-race activities at this new track being built in NJ. I am trying to sort out the issues related to seats, harnesses, and safety in general. My car needs a set up that is compatible with both street and track use, at least for the next year or so. So, I do not want to install a roll cage just yet. The Vader's have to go, too wide and slippery for me, and too heavy. I believe I need to stick with seats that are FIA homologated for safety reasons. It also appears that a harness of some type is generally preferable over the stock 3 pt. belts, although I don't think these are required by my club for basic drivers school. I have also read that some instructors won't ride in your car if you don't have things set up properly. So, I was thinking of getting some decent, but reasonably inexpensive seats such as the Recaro SRD or Speed, the Sparco Evo or pro2000, or maybe the Racetech RT4000. But, I have also read that using racing shells in a car without a roll cage is not good because the seat won't collapse in a roll-over, and the driver gets smashed as a result. So, the Racetech or the Sparco seat models I mentioned might not be a good option. The Corbeau FX1 Pro looks like a nice lightweight and inexpensive seat (and the right size for me), but I cannot determine if it is FIA-compliant, and it is a fixed shell also. I would also like to consider harnesses, and possibly the use of a harness bar such as the following: http://www.bkauto.com/bmw/r1201.php Once installed, it supposedly can be removed from the car fairly easily when you are not on the track. So, any thoughts appreciated. I have researched the forums, but cannot find any conclusive recommendations as to a safe set-up that is also streetable. Also, if anyone has any smaller-size seats for sale, I'd be open to that. Tia, Matt Bader 98 M3/4 Delaware

Date: Fri, 23 Nov 2007 08:56:49 -0800 (PST) From: "j. helffrich" <girolamous@yahoo.com> Subject: Suspension refresh ideas Hi All, I am looking to replace the suspension in my 1995 M3 for use as a autoX/HPDE car, with some daily driving. I'm looking for bushings and shocks, and would like to stay with urethane, not solid bushings. Turner has a nice kit to start me off: http://www.turnermotorsport.com/html/detail.asp?PRODUCT_ID=E36REARBUSHINGS but I also need front adj camber plates (thinking KMAC or Vorschlag) and shocks/springs. How do the Bilstein PSS9 vs. Vogtland Coilover vs. TC Kline Koni setups for harshness and reliability? I am trying to stay away from mere inserts because I had problems with the sway bar connection ripping out of the stock strut housing after a little off road action. I also want to be able to run 255's on 17" wheels all around. Thanks, Jerry ____________________________________________________________________________________ Never miss a thing.
