I am waiting for original M3 GT strut brace. Now when my front is going to be stiff - what about rear? I had some instability during hard braking from high speed- rear was trying to get loose from side to side. Would stiffening the front do this even worse? Thanks! The X-brace was standard on convertible models and an owner-installed part for the '95 LTW. Go to the dealer parts guy and tell him (lie) that you have an E36 convertible (pick any year between '97-'99) and he will immediately know what you are talking about. Pay your money and walk out - don't try to explain anything to the parts guy. The convertible's X-brace fits perfectly on every E36 model. BMW made an E36 M3 Convertible for Europe many years before the convertible came to the USA. And apparently, the convertible was made on the same production line as the coupe and sedan. BMW did not make a special subframe for the convertible - it just used the same subframe for all models. Therefore, EVERY subframe (well - except for a few very early 1994 production dates) has the bolt holes and nut inserts for the X-brace. And even if you don't have the nut inserts, BMW has retrofit inserts for this application. Good luck! In fact, you might get more satisfaction doing them seperately and trying to see how much change you notice from each. It won't be a dramatic change for either, but it should be noticeable. For your instability under braking, I'd suggest checking/changing your rear trailing arm bushings. A rear shock tower brace won't do much, if anything. Bushings are probably the better area to concentrate on. I believe they are softer. I installed them anyway and the problem was after installation. Its not possible to get original M3 bushings any longer. I tried for 1/2 hour, every which way but could not get it out. BUT, I got the cluster sideways far enough to reach up there and caaaarefully put 2 bulbs in with a 1/4" socket wrench! Next time I will just take off the stupid wheel..... I can send the correct pin locations for you to do that, and can even look at the wiring diagram to see what may or may not work. I don't know if you will get error messages or anything like that for the functions that are not connected. BUT, i think it would be moderately frustrating to have most of the functions not work. Are you sure that you can't get a used 11 button? Dave On Nov 28, 2007 10:37 PM, kfong <kfong@optonline.net> wrote: > Dave, > The 11 button unit in my car started to go bad too. A really bad time for me How much does this typically go for or what is considered a reasonable amount for replacement. I'm not planning on going to the dealer, but another shop. When I was having my last summer tires changed out they showed me how loose it was and the leak at the boot. I was told that I was going to have to change it out. Should I go with a remanufactured rack? And where is the best place to get them? I'm assuming that I have to get a new pump and alignment as well. As I type this I'm realizing this is going to be really expensive. I would do it myself but I don’t have the facilities or time to do it. I've got 178K on the car and from what I'm reading I'm pretty lucky too. Robert E36m3, Beaten and battered in Chicago No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition.
