Or there's the easier answer to that problem: buy lug nuts that take a 17mm socket. The conical seat is the same size. The HPS pads have a good amount of material left: http://bbs.planetb.net/~chrispy/hawk_hps.jpg I was going to throw them out, but if someone wants them, they're yours for the cost of shipping. Email me if interested. - Chris

#4. Advice on Selling 1995 M3 - from Michael Wylie

Date: Sat, 15 Dec 2007 14:18:32 -0800 From: "Michael Wylie" <mdwylie@ix.netcom.com> Subject: Advice on Selling 1995 M3 Hi everybody, As an obvious sign of age, I am thinking about selling my 1995 M3 manual transmission and getting a BMW with an automatic transmission. I bought it new and it has 59K miles (yes 59K). I put a new factory VANOS in it about a year ago but it is still noisy so I plan to install a Dr. Vanos Stage II unit in early 2008. It is stock except for a Dinan "chip". The prices I see on Craigslist for the SF Bay Area run from 11 to 15. 15 seems a stretch to say the least. What price might I expect if I sell it with the Stage II VANOS say sometime in February. Is there a seasonality to selling? I think a nice 2005 330ci ZHP might be nice (if they come with an automatic) or even a 2004 745i. But then I haven't driven one yet, so one thing at a time. Thanks in advance. Mike 95 M3 03 525i 98 Buick Regal (the no worries, easiest car to drive and live with but then there's the age thing again.)

You have a good chance of getting 15k for a low mileage, original owner E36 M3 especially if you have all of the maintenance records and you've kept it up cosmetically (interior and regular waxings). A good friend has a ZHP and I LOVE it, especially in the Imola Red color. If I ever tire of my 95 M3 (doubt it), I would probably get into a ZHP. They offer performance very close to the E36 M3 and yes, they are available in auto. I've noticed prices are coming down on them too. You can find a nice one for well under $25k. For your seasonal question, you might have a better chance of getting $15k in the spring/summer since many people in the market are willing to travel for a fine example. On the other hand, you have a good chance of getting that premium in the SF bay area too. My thinking might be off on this, but maybe it's better to put it up for sale before the new M3 comes out. When the new one comes out, it might drive prices down on the E46 M3, possibly enough to distract potential E36 M3 buyers. Good luck with your sale! Here is the nut of it for posterity... The black sensor in the S50 head is the gauge and it is a 0-10v signal but it its curve is shaped differently so you can't really just use a voltage divider network and feed the ECU or it will think its too cold and dump fuel well after the head is really warm. The blue sensor is the ECU and it is a 0-5v signal. I briefly considered splitting it downstream of the ecu using an op-amp to boost the signal to the gauge and it would work just fine if the "other" solution was very expensive but... the sensor from the S52 is just the exact same output as both the other sensors and is only $19. The connector came from the dealer and was $4. 5 minutes of work and all is well... so I guess for just this once I didn't end up swimming upstream after all. Cheers, -- Walter

#8. putting roundels on BBS RK center caps - from Chris Papademetrious

A couple years ago, I decided to order some BMW self-adhesive roundels to put on the center caps. The stuff sat on my shelf for awhile until I noticed it today, and decided to stick 'em on: http://www.chrispitude.net/view.php?album=cars%2FM3&pic=IMG_1375.jpg&dispsize=800 http://www.chrispitude.net/view.php?album=cars%2FM3&pic=IMG_1376.jpg&dispsize=800 I sanded the caps down with emory cloth, cleaned up the surface with some Goof-Off, let dry, ran a black permanent marker around the edge of the cap a few times (the sticker is a hair too small to cover the entire cap), let dry, stuck 'em on. Hopefully they'll stay on. They look nice. :) Ignore the greasy finger smears in the second picture; that's from me pressing on the roundel to adhere it well. - Chris

When I took off the inside panel I could see the lever that actuates the latch is broken. It is just plastic and part of the outside handle. The dealer wanted $185 for the whole assembly that includes new keys. I really don't want to have to carry two different sets of keys and wonder if there are any other options?? Thanks and Happy Holidays to you all! Gary Louisville, KY 1995 Avus M3 PS- of course my inside panel is falling apart now...Liquid Nails stinks as well as a hot glue gun. Any suggestions for adhesives to attach the various plastic parts?
