Jim Conforti does have an excellent reputation. You ought to get the car dyno'd. Besides finding out what you now have under the hood, it is a blast to watch a car doing the equivalent of 120 mph while (hopefully) well secured. What did the Conforti kit run you? It was fun to shift into second and feel the car buck to the rear and launch forward. The car (in stock trim) ran very good and pulled well into the 6k rpm range in every gear. I removed the baffle in the airbox and the car sounded slightly different but I did not notice anything else except my mileage went up by 2 -3 mpg while on trips. I did not install the replacement airfilter and intake ducting. If I had I could speak more about what you asked. However, after driving the car for a year (at that point) I purchased the Conforti kit. I got the Air filter, intake ducting, splash guard, Euro HFM and the chip. Best money I've ever spent on any car I've owned. I have chipped Camaros and other cars but have not obtained this level of improvement. This kit turned the my quiet storm into a totally different car. Now I never dynoed this car but four of my friends that I previously ran and stuck next to were shocked when I ran them again. I gained no less than four car lengths. The top end pulled well into the 7k rpm mark. The fun factor was immense ! Thank you Jim Conforti for a product that I would buy again in a heart beat. The car idles even better now with the A/C on. Before it was kinda rough at idle with it blowing. Although, my mileage has gone down to around 21 - I have to blame it on me. I simply can not drive the car normally. The intake sound is a rude awakening to anyone in ear shot. It actually scared my girlfriend when I jumped on it with her in the car the first time after installation. She had her window down at the time. The look on her face was priceless.....followed by a whoo - hoo ! Ok, its the only car that she has been in that runs the 1/4 mile in under 18 seconds. Anyway, my friends rushed to the store and purchased kits for their cars but did not receive the increase that I did. :) -------------- Original message ---------------------- From: Bill and Jan Klemme <wklemme@gmail.com> > Date: Sat, 29 Dec 2007 04:03:40 -0500 > From: Bill and Jan Klemme <wklemme@gmail.com> > Subject: Re: [E36M3] Euro intake ITG filter > > OK guys, I'm still a newbie on M3 mods. Date: Sat, 29 Dec 2007 11:02:22 -0500 From: "Matt Bader" <mbader@exammaster.com> Subject: More on upgrades Another factor on the upgrades is that it is generally easier to get more power from an OBDI car (e.g. 95 M3) versus on OBDII Car (e.g. the original poster's 99 coupe). That's my understanding anyway. So a kit like JC's kit probably gives you more bang for the buck on the OBDI car.

#4. Diesel notes... - from RFKoby@aol.com
Top
Date: Sat, 29 Dec 2007 12:01:35 EST From: RFKoby@aol.com Subject: Diesel notes... This talk of BMW diesels brings up some thoughts: - First of all, Diesel fuel is tied very closely to home heating oil. It is also close to kerosene and jet fuel. These are all "heavy" fuel oils. Being tied closely with home heating oil is why the price goes up significantly over the winter. [keep in mind the urban is slow speed continuous cruise] [keep in mind that highway is s higher speed than the US] - The 335 (gasoline) in Europe get 13.2 / 6.7 / 9.1 [liters / 100 km] city / urban / highway. This converts to 17.8 / 35.1 / 25.9 mpg. The city and highway average is 21.8 mpg. - The 335d in Europe get 9.1 / 5.3 / 6.7 [liters / 100km] This converts to 25.9 / 44.4 / 35.1 mpg. The city and highway average is 30.5 mpg. - The 335d gets any average of ~40% better mileage based on the averages. During the spring and summer, diesel fuel is roughly the same cost as premium unleaded. Using $3.15/gallon as a cost average for both gas and diesel, and based on the combined averages, The 335i costs $0.1445/mile to operate. The 335d costs $0.1032/mile to operate. A difference of $0.0413/mile. The 335i costs 37,815 euro. The 335d costs 40.336 euro. Diesel costing 2521 euro more, or $3,655 (using $1.45 / euro). The diesel only costs 6.66% more. You would make up the difference in 88,500 miles. But the main point is to consider is that you will be using LESS fuel. The FUEL COST per mile is 28% less. Bob (praying they BMW gets smart and brings the 123d hatchback and X5 3.0d) (123d gets close to 50 mpg!!!) **************************************See AOL's top rated recipes (http://food.aol.com/top-rated-recipes?NCID=aoltop00030000000004)

I think you have your numbers reversed, though, for the specifics on each car, except the averages are probably what you intended. Diesel and/or Hybrid seems like the short-medium term solution for fuel savings at a national level. The 335d also sounds like a blast to drive which is a nice bonus. #9. mileage update as we say goodbye to 2007 - from Mdriver13@aol.com

Date: Sat, 29 Dec 2007 16:41:15 EST From: Mdriver13@aol.com Subject: mileage update as we say goodbye to 2007 Group, Just spent some 'quality' time with the M3 today, since the temp was around 50F here in eastern PA. She just turned 52K, well 52, 022 to be precise. I think that's fairly low mileage for a M3 that I took ownership of two days before Thanksgiving 1996?! Just a rumor, I have not intent of doing this. My car with the Conforti kit passes fine. Also, I have seen the Conforti kit go for as much as 1,200.00 on the web. -------------- Original message ---------------------- From: "Matt Bader" <mbader@exammaster.com> > Date: Sat, 29 Dec 2007 13:50:09 -0500 > From: "Matt Bader" <mbader@exammaster.com> > Subject: RE: [E36M3] More on upgrades > > Yes, I imagine the turbos are really up there in the stratosphere powerwise. > I think the best I can get out of mine, with a Rotrex C38 centrifugal blower > at about 10 PSI, would be roughly 400 whp.
