I recently removed my car from a 15 monh storage. car was on stands in a semi climate controlled garage. not enough to keep my rotors from a little surface rust. well anyway, while i am driving there is a rubbing or ticking sound kinda like the baseball card in the spokes of a bicycle. sound in coming from the lower right hand corner in the front but closer to the transmission than the wheelwell. i've only had it back on the road for about a week or so now. anyone have an idea what it could possibly be or if it sounds like some kinda normal wear. i know e36 have their normal odd sounds.. 97 328i . Same compound, wider footprint and a stiffer carcass. I like them for a trackday tire. We will of course have used ones coming off shortly, same as the RA-1. #5. Lifts -- have had one for over 6 years now... - from Kirk
Top
Date: Sun, 27 Jan 2008 14:01:52 -0800 From: "Kirk" <admranger@earthlink.net> Subject: Lifts -- have had one for over 6 years now... I have a two post cheapo Forward brand lift. unfortunately, my ceilings weren't high enough for the 7k lb overhead line one, so I had to settle for the 9k lb drive over the lines one. Two drawbacks: arms aren't low enough to fit under the race car (so I made some custom, one-of-a-kine, ebay rare, set of ramps out of a scrap of massive lumber and a hand saw -- fwooba, fwooba, fwoooba [cue Cosby recording w/Noah and the ark]); and (if you are still reading this) it isn't an asymetrical arm lift so the doors only open part way. However, it's a lift and I'm grateful I have it. I would NEVER try to install a two post lift myself unless the 7k lb models have much lighter posts. One 'oops' and you are toast as the posts weigh a bunch. Think over 500 lbs each. Massive pieces of steel. Don't forget to factor in running a 220v line (and the inevitable, while I'm in there I may as well wire in extra lights, a 220v plug for the new compressor/welder, etc. <-- wish I'd have thought of that). I think I have $3k invested installed, wired, and for relocating the garage door track closer to the ceiling (can't use a standard garage door opener though). Never having to use jackstands at home: priceless. Cheers, Kirk Lachman Sin City Chapter '95 M3 w/2.8 transplant for JP car in the works FOR SALE: Supersprint SS cat back exhaust w/DTM tips. I have a 26" lift BendPak scissor type and you just back the car on if you want access to the engine/tranny area. The hyd cyl and lower cross beams are biased towards one end of the lift. I just drained and refilled the Diff on Trackenstein yesterday, plenty of room for the creeper and the gallon jug/pump under there. Brake and tire changes are so much quicker and easier versus jacks. Yes, I wish I could have put in a 'real' lift, but it would have been too wide (costing the wife her spot in the garage would NOT have flown!), and I would have had to do the same door change that Rich mentioned.
