Something similar to this: http://vacmotorsports.com/cgi-bin/view_item.pl?item_id=46 We used a piece of cardboard to create a template, then cut the diamond plate to fit and then used the bar stock and some small aluminum straps to get the floor pan to sit at about the same level as the stock, carpeted floor with a floor mat on top. Getting the level correct was a bit tricky, but it was well worth it. I drove two days in a row at Laguna Seca last month and noticed a significant decrease in ankle & shin fatigue in my right leg after installing, compared to how it had been previously. I'll take some pictures tomorrow if you would like. Carpet was not too difficult to get out, as long as the razor knife was new and sharp.? Hardest part was getting the carpet out from under the center stack, but with some careful cutting and brute strength I was able to rip it out.? The sound deadening material is coming off fairly easily as well, I just have the passenger footwell left to do, which will take maybe an hour.? Then the fun part of using goo-gone or something like that to wipe the residue off the floor so that there's a clean surface to paint.? I'm looking forward to the fumes and resultant buzz.? I found a place on the web that mixes custom spray paint cans to match any car's color, they had Avus Blue in their listing so for $12 a can I should be able to get the inside looking pretty spiffy and consistently painted. One thing I was amazed to see was how thick the carpet and padding was in the footwells, about an inch and a half or maybe two inches think.? This has me wondering if I'll have to adjust how my feet work the pedals since they'll be resting so much lower on the floor. So far I'm planning on leaving the door panels in place so it's not so ratty looking, if someone knows where I can get some lightweight aluminum panels for them so it looks cleaner I'd take them out. Once I have all the sound deadening material out I plan to weigh everything I've taken out and will report back what it all weighed.? I'm guessing 125 pounds or so.? It's been a heck of a lot easier and succesful than my diet! #7. Harness attachment points - from Tim Williams
Top
Date: Thu, 7 Feb 2008 00:35:38 -0500 From: "Tim Williams" <willtj@bellsouth.net> Subject: Harness attachment points I've a 95 M3 with Rollbar, stock seats. Looking for a 6 point harness solution for use with stock seats, for now. Currently I have the schroth 4 pt, bolted in. Some advise that the inboard lap attachment point requires at least a drilled hole and backing plate, with welding recommended by some (backing plate to trans tunnel) I noticed, however, that Schroth makes an attachment strap that is bendable and intended to be used with the clip. This is similar to the mounting of the bolt-in 4 point, I think. I'll have to review the clearance, but it appears that I could use the stock inboard mounting point for the strap, allowing the harness to clip in. Outboard mounting point is also stock. Shoulder wrap on the bar. That leaves the sub straps. I've been in instructor cars where these were attached at the lap positions, then sat on. Could they be mounted, also with the Schroth attachment strap, to the forward seat mount positions? The Schroth mounting strap I'm describing is pn 01324, a "Rallye End Bolt On Kit", can be found with a google "schroth 01324". The description specifically mentions use as a clip on anchor in tight locations. Comments appreciated. I realize racing seat would be preferable. Looking for those too.

Stick with either your 4 pt set up or get a race seat. If you do go to a race seat, yes, the inboard will need a backing plate if you go through the trans tunnel. The sub straps will also require backing plates. Generally, yes, the bendable brackets you speak of can be used that way but even if you go with a competition type harness, do not use sub straps with a stock seat, they are not designed for their use. Cheers.
