I need to know if my GM pump must be regulated down for the steering rack or not, so if anyone can summon up the specs on this I'd appreciate it. There is a huge thread on BimmerForums.com on this exact swap. #7. Troubleshooting electrical issue on engine swap (help needed) - from Kirk

Date: Sat, 9 Feb 2008 19:34:54 -0800 From: "Kirk" <admranger@earthlink.net> Subject: Troubleshooting electrical issue on engine swap (help needed) I finally got all 4 tires on the car now that the 2.8 is nicely tucked in where the S50 used to be. When I tried to fire it up, it cranked but no joy. Pulled a plug (#2) and it definitely had fuel. Did the stomp test (remember, I kept the OBD-1 harness, crank and cam sensors, etc.) and came up with error code 1281, which is telling me the DME is getting no power or insufficient power. Try as I might to understand the nice electrical diagrams the Bentley has, my brain is fried from frustration. Anyway, I'd sure appreciate some skilled help (as opposed to what is available at my house -- no skills here...). Thanks, Kirk Lachman '95 M3 w/2.8 motor (rrrrrrrr, rrrrrrr, rrrrrr -- $%^%$&@*@(#))

#8. California traffic school options - from Steve Sharp

A friend of mine just got a ticket in Santa Clara County here in California. She was caught on radar doing 47 in a 30 zone by a cycle riding sheriff. (mandatory BMW content: she was driving her E46 330i). She's already been to traffic school within the last 6 months, so I know she can't take the 'normal' on-line version. Does anyone know if there is still an option for a "level 2" traffic school in California and specifically Santa Clara County? Thanks! Steve

Date: Sun, 10 Feb 2008 09:44:04 -0500 From: "Bob Lenarcik" <bob@lenarcik.net> Subject: RE: [E36M3] California traffic school options Steve, I am not sure if things changed in the last few years (moved from the Bay Area to SE PA in 2005), but I was in a similar situation. I attended on-line traffic school for a speeding ticket in Santa Clara county 13 months prior to getting another ticket in Santa Cruz county. (Both times speeding in my 97 M3.) I thought I was OK because I understood that you can attend traffic school every 12 months. Turns out the time between traffic schools varies by county but the last attendance date counts regardless of location is counted. Santa Cruz county allows traffic school once every 18 months. In Santa Clara it *was* 12 months. (The kicker was that it was less than 1 mile from the Santa Clara county line and the 2nd time the same CHP officer got me at about the same spot on Highway 9! Funny story about the CHP officer: I used to see him all the time patrolling Hwy 9 but didn't see him at all between the 2 tickets he gave me. A friend who knew him told me why. He pulled over a speeder and arrested him on an outstanding warrant. It was summer so the detainee convinced the officer to put him in the front seat of the cruiser because the AC was running. The detainee managed to get his hands from behind his back and stole the car while the officer was outside. The detainee crashed the cruiser into a redwood a couple miles away and get away on foot. The warrant? grand theft auto. Officer spent a couple years on desk duty. ) There was no option for Level 2 and the SC county traffic court clerk told me to not waste my time trying to plead it in front of the judge - something about showing up means you're guilty. I wanted to plead guilty and request traffic school even though it was too close to the previous one. For me, I had no option but to take the points and stay out of trouble for 5 more months. Haven't gotten another ticket since. - Bob -----Original Message----- From: Steve Sharp [mailto:steve.sharp@xilinx.com] Sent: Sunday, February 10, 2008 3:10 AM To: E36M3 Subject: [E36M3] California traffic school options Date: Sun, 10 Feb 2008 00:06:50 -0800 From: "Steve Sharp" <steve.sharp@xilinx.com> Subject: California traffic school options I need the collective experience of the list to help with a problem. I have no problem with speeding on the open road within reason and the only one likely to get hurt is the driver, but to do so in what appears to be either a residential district or school zone, is inexcusable. Those are the only 2 zones I can think of in NY with speed limits that low. Sorry but I have very little tolerance for drivers who endanger others, esp. children. Rant off: Suggest she learn to drive at a drivers school and not treat the streets as the track.
