However, I don't think you understand the roads and speed limits out here, otherwise you would probably not have responded the way you had. School, Residential and hospital zones in Santa Clara County are 25 mph, not 30. Off the top of my head, I can think of at least 5 roads that I drive regularly in Santa Clara County with absurdly low posted speed limits of 30 mph. These are roads that, if you saw google maps images of them, you would classify them as "open road"; they are rural, sparsely populated (if at all) and very fun to drive. I can only assume that the county set the speed limit on these roads to, on occasion, generate revenue. That Steve's friend was ticketed by a sheriff, indicates that she was likely on one of these type of roads, not in a city, where the municipal departments are responsible for traffic control. I'm sorry, though, I don't have any info for Steve on how his friend can deal with multiple traffic schooling in 6 months. Perhaps she could (should) either slow down, get a V1, or both. -jeff S52 Sedan S50 trackdog ----- Original Message ---- From: Carey Probst <hcprobst@alum.mit.edu> Rant on: Tell her that if she wants to make BMW drivers look bad, not to do it in a residential zone and take what she deserves. I have no problem with speeding on the open road within reason and the only one likely to get hurt is the driver, but to do so in what appears to be either a residential district or school zone, is inexcusable. Those are the only 2 zones I can think of in NY with speed limits that low. Sorry but I have very little tolerance for drivers who endanger others, esp. children. Rant off: Suggest she learn to drive at a drivers school and not treat the streets as the track. Out here, rural type roads are usually 45 or 50 unmarked, rarely that slow. One great one is all 55 but with a lot of black on yellow warning signs for 20 to 30. Fortunately black on yellow is a suggestion, not a speed limit. NY can be pretty screwy but rarely do they post a road that low unless in town/residential. The default, unposted, limits are 30 residential, 50 rural. Carey Jeff Conner wrote: > Carey, > > I understand where you're coming from. According to CVC 41501 (http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/cgi-bin/displaycode?section=veh&group=41001-42000&file=41500-41501) one can request to attend a longer traffic school (12 hours vs. the normal 8 hours) in order to have the citation dismissed. It's not automatic, and the judge can deny the request (at least in my wife's case :-( ). Hope that helps, Jim Bassett

It's not automatic, and >the judge can deny the request (at least in my wife's case :-( ). > >Hope that helps, >Jim Bassett This is exactly what i did last year. I had already taken traffic school for a previous offense then 15 months later i got caught doing a rolling stop at a Red Light Camera intersection (stupid, because i know that camera is there and i've always came to a complete stop the previous hundred times i've made that right turn but i was distracted by a death in the family a few days prior). I went to the court clerk and asked for the 12 hour traffic school but she said a judge has to grant that request and gave me a court date several months away. I went back to court and pleaded Guilty with an Explanation, then explained why i rolled through that light on that day. The judge was sympathetic but still found me guilty (as i expected) but did grant me what they called the "Second Violator Traffic School". Classroom attendence is required - no online schools are allowed for 2nd offenders. I went for two 6-hour Saturday sessions and it wasn't so bad. Red Light Camera note: A number of people were there for Red Light Camera tickets and said that they had stopped completely, but when the judge looked at the video it did show the car had stopped completely, but the front bumper was past the Limit Line and the judge found all of these people guilty of Failure To Stop For a Red Light, since apparently the law requires that you not only stop completely, but do so before the Limit Line. So i did learn something that day which will save me a lot of money in the future. Randy El Segundo, CA

Date: Sun, 10 Feb 2008 11:10:12 -0800 From: "Kirk" <admranger@earthlink.net> Subject: Got the car running! Well, I simply listened to Chet's advice of putting the original Conforti chip back in the car to see if that'd make it work. Sure enough, it started right up! So apparently either the used chip I bought that was supposedly tuned to the 2.8, S50 cams, ltw flywheel, free flow intake and exhaust is crap or it has EWS enabled (which the previous owner says is not the case). Hmmm, which wire do I cut (and where is it) to disable EWS on a '95 M3 (April 95 build)? Thanks for all the private replies I received. Appreciate the help (especially from people in my class like Matt Kogan!). Cheers, Kirk Lachman Sin City Chapter
