What is the current 'hot setup'? Anyone other than Bavauto selling an entire kit? Their kit is $359 which seems pretty reasonable if its complete, although I must admit I dont care about a 'volt' gauge...would rather have trans temp or something useful... Dave

The best places for gauges is "www.egauges.com". I followed the BAV kit and got a 150PSI gauge for the oil pressure. I suggest getting the 80 or the 100. If anyone wants a 150PSI you can have mine for free. I'm going to pick up the 0-5 Bar gauge in it's place. I picked one up instead of changing the regular sender block. I went Spa from www.elephantmotorsports.com, with only two gauges I have oil pressure/temp, coolant temp/volts. I probably will add trans/diff temp to complete the 3 holes in my panel. ;-) The Spa ones include the sender and everything is pre-wired. The warning lights are also programmable so you don't need extra senders for warning lights like you do with most everything else. I got the panel from Eastern Motorwerks or whatever their name was before they closed the doors but that panel is a piece of cake to make. Carlos 98 M3 97 540i/6

The biggest benefit IMHO is more crisp turn-in and much improved feedback through the steering wheel. Downsides? Yep, my set is noisy as hell in certain situations such as driving slow and turning in a tight radius, driving over speed bumps, going from forward to reverse and vice-versa, etc. It manifests itself as a creaking sound that can be heard clearly inside and outside of the car. I have spoken with Rob at UUC and he suggested disassembling the parts and lubricating them with a heavy grease. I have yet to try this due to the lovely weather but hope to be trying this soon. Feedback from other internet forums says this is a good fix but the jury is out on how long it will last. I believe Rob is on this list so he may chime in with more details. Would I buy them again? Yes. The benefits (even in normal driving) outweigh the downsides by a great deal. You do not mention the year of your M3 so I will mention one warning if you have a '95; these bushings are not offset and to keep your caster within spec you must run the '96+ control arms. Has anyone here used them? I had been planning on buying the offset powerflex bushings. These UUC ones are $100 more expensive, so they must provide something worthwhile? I am guessing that it is just the fact that they are supposed to be quieter and reduce the NVH, which is not worth $100 to me. I'd appreciate any thoughts from the crowd. #7. speaker/radio question - from Bill and Jan Klemme

Date: Thu, 14 Feb 2008 22:59:11 -0500 From: Bill and Jan Klemme <wklemme@gmail.com> Subject: speaker/radio question For all you audiophiles out there, a couple of questions. After someone used my '99 M3 for a couple of hours, when I got it back the speakers sounded broken...can't turn up the volume very much before they start to distort and sound like they're being overdriven. The guy likes to play the radio loud (he used to have the "big boom" woofers setup in his trunk) and I assume he turned my radio up to max. 1) Can this destroy the speakers? All of them? (Both sides and the rear sound the same.) 2) Could it be the amp was damaged instead of the speakers? 3) Is there an easy way to test this? 4) What would be a good (not too expensive) upgrade setup to replace all of the speakers, if that IS the problem? I assume buying used stock speakers is not very smart. I have the HK system. Thanks in advance, Bill K

Not without at least pulling a speaker out. The rear deck speakers are pretty easy to remove. > 4) What would be a good (not too expensive) upgrade setup to replace all > of the speakers, if that IS the problem?  I assume buying used stock > speakers is not very smart. Almost anything is an upgrade. Even some of the cheap sub-$100 component sets out there whoop the HK speakers. Dave

I have a set of their midrange drivers in my 98 M3 with the HK upgrade...the stock ones crapped out on me a couple years ago. They are at least as good as the stock HK speakers.
