It is so old he sold the LTW to Marc E. back in '99 O'fest, and I haven't seen him club race the E30 M3 in at least 5 years. :-) I think current oils in my cars are BMW Synth in the 540i and the '98 M3 has been running Castrol Syntec 5W50 since the previous owner and I don't want to jinx it. The lifters have always been quiet even after autox runs/track events and the car makes plenty of power (dynoed last year at Mid-Ohio). I was going to switch it to Royal Purple but I think I'll stick with what has worked for the last 10 years. If the thing lets go at some point I may rethink that decision. :-) Carlos 98 M3 97 540i/6

I've been tracking the labeling on several products recently, and it appears that several are reducing the zinc and phosphorus that make up the anti-wear additive ZDDP which is key to internal lubrication. Mobil 1 15W50 still uses the 'right' amount of zinc. The newer SM and CJ-4 oils are not good. API SG-SJ is good as well as the European ACEA A3/B3 class. I run Brad Penn 20w50 in the M5 because it is good stuff and I get it way cheaper than the usual suspects. In fact, I should be running that in the M3 as well for about $3/quart. http://www.bradpennracing.com/ Kevin Kelly '95 M3 '91 M5 ____________________________________________________________________________________ Never miss a thing. I have picked up an 18 button and have instructions to wire for most of the 18 button functions.. The piece I will need is the white X1071 connector that the 11-Button OBC doesn’t have. Does anyone have one of these? Maybe a recent race car conversion, salvage car etc? Drop me a note if you have one available. Jeff Bjerke 98 Red/Black M3 Coupe
