Ken, It must be true that it doesn't happen to all E36s. I ran mine down to just under 1/4 tank and experienced no problems. But then, I probably wasn't going as fast as you. :^) At other tracks I've gotten into the fuel warning light and haven't experienced the fuel cutting out. --Scott Blazey M3CSH

Believe it or not, I was really pissed when I found out the '96 M3 had a console door lock. :) I have a 29" inseam. It is darn near impossible for me to lock the doors. I prefer to drive with the doors locked. It is safer. I have been thrown out of a car on impact (sleeping in the back seat) and I can tell you it is much better to stay inside of a car. BMW's will automatically unlock the doors after an impact (ask me how I know :) so there is no danger of being trapped inside a burning car. FYI, other '95 E36 models (with automatic transmissions only maybe?) automatically lock the doors when you put the car in Drive. I am surprised BMW does not have this feature with manual transmission cars too. >Thanks for the writeup, Brent. I'm going to >try to find some time to do the upgrade. Yes, thanks Brent. Find time? Chip, if you figure out how to find more time, let me know. I could sure use it! Lowell Seaton '95 M3 Dallas, Texas BMW CCA #131505 '95 M3, no switch

The high pressure pump could still suck fuel ok when the tank was at least 1/3 full but I would get fuel starvation on the track at 1/3 or less. I have never had the problem w/1992 325i or 98 M3 even running them quite low on the track. If you have a basic 1/4" drive metric socket set you can do both liners and the underfairing in about 2 hours. It may take less than that, but that's what I'm guessing for a first time. The whole thing is intuitive. Take off the fairing first, then the liners. I've heard that the fuel tank needs to be dropped to do this. Why can't the second fuel pump be wired to operate when the first is also running and shut off when the original one shuts off? Any tips on getting this installed? Does this bump you out of Stock class in Club Racing? If a mod is not listed as being allowed the rules say then it's not! Thanks, Ken Silver 97
